Over weight chocolate lab

    Hi there i am new to this so here goes I've got an 10 year old lab who is very over weight and is suffering from arthritis just lately he has started to sit down when going for a walk and am now to scared to take him he is on medication from the vets for his pain but the vet wants me to put him on a diet isis he to old to go on a diet he also had Broncos pnewmonea when he was a pup which affected his lungs so he's never been a very active dog .he just seems in a lot of pain at the moment and panting a lot i just wondered if anyone had got any advice thanks nickky

    Hi Nicky,

    I'm sure your vet wouldn't suggest putting your dog on a diet if they thought he was too old or ill to tolerate it. In fact shedding a little weight will ease the strain on your boy's joints and lungs, maybe buy him some more time with you, and certainly make that time more comfortable too :)
