One of the things I can rely on is the Small Black Dog going ballistic if anyone approaches the house or rings the door bell. Actually we really don't need a door bell as Lady does the job so much better. This evening, however ........

We'd just given Lady a chicken casserole dish to lick out when the door bell rang. It was one of our dog walking friends delivering one of Lady's dog tags that had fallen off and she'd found it in a field. My OH had to step over Lady who had her head firmly stuck in the casserole dish. She did look up briefly while my Oh was chatting at the door but then stuck her head back in the casserole. So her priorities are clearly-

    1 Food
    2 Food
    3 Food
    4 Food
5 Guard house (unless there is food around)

Bless her , tummy comes first :) Sam is a totally useless guard/alert dog, doesn't even lift his head when someone rings the bell , good job we have the reserve back up ;)

Hehe, I've had this. Mine will attempt a woof through a mouthful, but the food definitely has the focus :)

The chances of the doorbell ringing for the 56.9 seconds of food inhalation is slim, so not been tested in our household

we've had a lot of break in's round here. last one was on thursday 3 hooded men broke into a neighbours house at 8pm while she was in. The police have been going door to door warning everyone. I have never been so happy that my dogs bark when someone comes to the door or if they hear someone in the the street. Our neighbour is ok but obviously it will take her some time to get over this. We are all being very vigilant

@sdegg I am so thankfulto live in a quiet safe neighbourhood. Your posts make me really worry for you.
I think what we pass for normal in the UK is far removed from the experiences of others like yourself.
    Stay safe.

I not worried it seems to be a very isolated incident and the police are really working on it. They think its a team who work an area then move on to another the community has really rallied round and we are all watching each others houses. As my OH says god help them if they try to get in here you and them dogs will B****y scare em to death. Theres nothing more frightening according to him than a gingerhaired scary woman with nothing to loose backed up by a pack of furious labradors
