My almost 5 year old black lab, Radar has been what we call a jumper. He isn't hyper active, he is a sweet calm guy with some kangaroo in him. Last week, he developed a limp on his hind leg. I kept him quiet and applied ice packs, but he limped, and was walking on his toes. Took him to my vet, and I was told he needed surgery ($3,500.00) estimated or be put down. I was a babbling mess for a day, my vet sent x-rays to another vet that does courtesy consulting on cases. I waited another day, and no answers. I made an appointment with the consulting vet's office. I was given more options, but I am still confused. Has anyone else out there ever had this happen to their lab?

Hi there. Many of us have dogs that have limped and required surgery but I don'the think any of us have been given such a prognosis. What is the vet's diagnosis following examination and x-rays? If we have more information someone may have some personal experience of a similar situation.

I wondered if anyone out there opted to not do the surgery. I can't afford the surgical fee.

You could ask your 'regular' vet if he would do the op cheaper?
