I'm a truck driver and recently I had a dog on my truck and we don't know why he was a rescue or a savior and I suspected that you just had a bad case of worms because I've been fighting with him since I got him and probably about 5 weeks old my question is if it was parvo I have sterilized and cleaning my truck with two part bleach will another dog get it if they're in my truck not being fully vaccinated yet because I bought a puppy and I need to pick it up but I'm worried
Hey there - quick answer from a non-vet here. A dog doesn't have to be sick with parvo to carry it on his paws and "contaminate" an area. I don't know enough to tell you that you can fully eradicate the chance of parvovirus on soft materials (truck interior) with bleach, although it seems that might work. Best solution would be simply to buy a small inexpensive plastic crate and pop your pup into it when riding in the truck. He needs to be secure anyway while being transported (it's unsafe to have him sit on your lap or the passenger seat), so you solve two problems with one inexpensive solution. Hope that helps!
Yes I have been thruy truck on everything with bleach and a lot of bleach.every nook and cranny. I threw away everything I can think of possibly to even throw away if I didn't need it too bad and just buy another. I will be buying a new crate I threw the old one away. I'm just freeking out and wish I could have got him to a vet in time to get tested but he died before I could. I have many pups and home amd just so worried.every one tells me I'm freaking out for no reason cuz he didn't act like parvo. But with out being tested no one can convince me to not over react.better to over react than not in this case I feel. But yes I will be crating him. Just on our down times and him be ok to roam my truck.Im so afraid.i was thinking of even buying those throw rugs and putting them on the floor
I'm a little unclear as to what happened with your previous dog, but it sounds like he got sick and died, and you are not sure of the cause but suspect parvo? Having had two previous puppies who got parvo I can say that a dog who is sick with parvo is very sick indeed, and you are not going to mistake it for a dog having worms. But as you say without being tested you are not going to know for sure. If it was parvo, the virus is not only going to be in the truck but also in the soil around your house, if the pup had been outside, or for that matter even in your house depending on how long since your previous pup died. The virus can live in the soil for up to a year. I would talk to your vet and get his/her advice on this, for your peace of mind and your next dog's health.
