Hi, I have an eight month old Lab, each night after at 9-10pm he's pretty zonked out and sleeps mostly on a cushion by our sofa. We recently tried leaving him there overnight rather than putting him in his crate and he didn't destroy anything, but he wee'd on the floor, which is something he hasn't done for months. We tried again a few days later and I even set my alarm early to get up and try and pre-empt his need to go to the toilet but he had done it again. Any tips on how to de-crate but keep him housebroken?
Hi and welcome to the Forum. I always take my girl out for a wee last thing before bed whether that means waking her up or not and have always had the same routine with her. It's not clear whether you took him out for a last wee before bed or not but I'm guessing from your post that the the answer is not as he was so settled. Again, I'm guessing that you probably took him out for a wee before crating him for the night so it's just the same routine, just don't put him in the crate if you don't want to and he is safe from chewing etc. If he is going out for a wee before bed and still weeing on the floor it might be worth a visit to the vet to check that there is no infection or other problem.
