    Hi all

We have a 10 week old puppy and this is our first ever dog and so I’ve no idea what I’m doing! I’ve been reading lots of books and watching YouTube and Indy is doing wonderfully. She’s already learnt to sit to wait, wait to come out of her crate and is walking to heel well in the garden.

She’s also sleeping well, going from 11.30-6 and then I let her out for a wee. Her crate is dry in the morning.

This morning she even went outside twice without me and did a wee and a poo on the lawn.... so I was very smug and thought we’d cracked it!

Until... 5 minutes later she walked up to her crate, went in it and did a little wee on her vetbed.... why?!?! It seemed very purposeful rather than an accident.

Can anyone help understand this behaviour?
    Thank you!

Hi there, it sounds as though your puppy is doing well with sleeping at night!

Ten week old puppies are only just getting to grips with peeing and pooping in the right place. Although you can avoid most accidents with careful management, purposeful control takes a bit longer.

It's difficult to say why she may have peed on her vetbed - Puppies won't pee in their own bed, but if the crate is a bit too large she might believe that only one end of it is her bed and have peed on the other end.

If the intervals between her emptying her bladder are getting short rather than longer you may need to consider a UTI

    Thank you!

I decided to take the vetbed out of the crate and put it back in when she sleeps/naps, she doesn’t wee on it when she is sleeping so I wonder if because the door is open she’s doing it in there??

She scratched at the back door to be let out just now so I think she is getting it sometimes, hopefully we can build on that!

Your book is brilliant by the way, I’m reading it religiously, my husband is complaining that I am Gina Ford-ing her
