Any UK residents recommend which insurance company is best? The 5 week kennel club insurance that the breeder took out is due to run out soon and I wondered who have you gone with? It's amazing how it can vary in price too!!! On a brighter note, we only have to wait 4 more days until we can take him out! Many Thanks!
Hi we have gone with Petplan and they seem ok. It’s good to look around and find out what suits you. Happy walking
As our free 5 weeks was ticking down I looked at loads of options online as looking for cheaper cover which was fairly comprehensive and went with Bought By Many which had some different types of options not available elsewhere. Reality is that it is not until you need to claim that you know how good they are - and thankfully we have not had to do that.
Thanks for posting this @Mollymooker totally agree a real minefield out there with pet insurance..we are in the same position with our free 5 week Kennel Club insurance running out in a few weeks, (our wee Tilly is just over 10 weeks old now) I have asked some of my doggie friends and here's what some of them said.. "We are with petplan and have the full lifetime cover policy for both dogs. I initially screwed up when I got Zena and got the 12 month policy....and unfortunately in that year she ruptured her cruciate ligament so now is not covered for her back legs so with Ruby I've learnt my lesson and got lifetime from day one! It's full cover regardless of what happens. The policy generally does go up each year but not by much and in Zenas case has not increased after various claims other than the usual inflation. They are also great at paying out. Hope that helps x" "I would recommend looking at the fixed rate insurance policy offered by Bought by Many. It’s only offered to dogs under two years old, so perfect for a pup, it’s a decent policy pay out sum wise in comparison to others, but the most important aspect is that although you pay a bit more a month that other policies it’s fixed for life. I don’t know any other companies who offer that. We started with the Kennel Club when Gus was a pup and got the lifetime cover policy meant to cover ongoing health conditions if they arose. In four years it had increased so much year to year (despite never claiming) that we were paying over £50 a month just for him! One year it went up by almost £10 for no reason. With those year to year increases it was impossible to continue forcing us out of the policy which is what they ultimately want. I have the fixed rate insurance policy for Freddie now with Bought by Many. I pay £30 a month but thats fixed for life. Gus is with The insurance Emporium who were fantastic in paying out for his illness last year." " My lot are all insured with Sainsbury's, I've claimed plenty of times and they've always been great. It does go up and up as they get older. My 11 year old is now very expensive!" We were initially going to go with Petplan, one of their lifetime covers, heard they also pay the vets directly, ie you don't have to claim the money back...but we are now thinking Bought By Many, their fixed for life cover sounds great for puppies, ie the price stays the same for life. Another doggie friend is also with Bought By Many and she knows lots about doggies...I guess read all the different policies and go with one that feels right for you. Keep us posted on what you decided! But yip what @Diablo said about we won't know how good they are until we need to make a claim...and yeah fingers tightly crossed none of us ever do.
I can't remember the name of who we went with, can check when I get home later. Went for lifetime cover & up to 10 thousand a year, just in case the unthinkable was to happen with his joints. We pay just under £30 a month for that. Found it on money supermarket
Would definitely recommend @boughtbymany. Unlike others I have claimed many times for my troublesome pup over her first year all claims settled promptly with regular updates. I have the no excess policy first year £14 per month now just increased to £18. Honestly can't fault them H
We have always had Direct Line and are very happy with them - have claimed thousands. We get the Lifetime cover for the first 2 years of a dog's life, when genetic conditions etc may arise, then we switch to the annual policy since otherwise it all gets unaffordable with multiple dogs...
