I have just started the when pigs fly training book, and soon to start the training program with barley, too see if i can get him motivated, and to get him (and me) to enjoy training. It is clicker training based, so that is another positive. i will try to keep you updated on what exercises we are doing and how we get on.

(helen this would be a good book for you and charlie)

Session 1: Activity 1: Name recognition

The aim of this exercise is that the dogs gets very exited when it hears it name, it is not a recall command, it is just a command for pay attention as i am going to ask you to do something command, sort of like a watch me, but with the dogs name.

The activity is saying the dogs name, then clicking then giving the dog the treat, at least 20 times per session, and at least 2 sessions a day, so by the end of day three, the dog is almost getting whiplash when it hears it name (quote from the book).

We have done 1 session so far today and hoping to squeeze 2 more in by the end of the day. He was a bit confused as he just kept getting fed treats without being asked to do anything, but he will learn that it is for his name (i hope)
