Hope someone can help my girl! My 13 year old female Lab Shadow started having seizures about a month ago. It was absolutely horrifying to see my girl go through that!! She has been having a seizure about every two weeks until yesterday, when she had two seizures in one day!! Me and my wife are frantically searching for anything that can help her. We have had her on CBD oil for about 2 weeks and she really did great with it until yesterday when she had two seizures. We are fighting putting her on potassium bromide, but may end up having to. We are going to tru Chinese herbs to see if they will help her. It is a prescription Di Tan Tang. We also give her melatonin and a teaspoon of Karo syrup at bedtime I want to rid my little girl of these horrible seizures. Just looking for advise from Labrador owners who have had similar experiences and if any successes. Thanks, and God bless.
Hi Richard, I am so sorry to hear about your Lab's seizures. This really is something that needs to be treated by a qualified vet and any home remedies you want to try should only be under their supervision. I do hope your vet is able to help Shadow
Totally agree with pippa@labforumHQ, having had an epileptic lab who developed epilepsy at three and died just short of his 14th birthday. At 13 I'm sure your girl is not suffering from epilepsy but something else is going on that really needs veterinary intervention. If I were you, I'd get her seen without further delay. Good luck and very best wishes for her quick recovery from these horrible seizures.
My 11-year-old male labrador had seizures one day when he was about five years old. He had just stolen some brad bins from the bin, and apparently labradors can be very allergic to broad beans (?). The fits then stopped and he was completely fine until he was eight years old and he had a really big seizure, possibly even a stroke. He kept on falling down when he tried to stand up - it was very scary. We managed to get him into the car and to the vet where he had lots of tests, but the vet couldn't find anything wrong. Apparently it could either have been a stroke or an inner ear infection. Either way, he's been fine ever since, apart from his head which has stayed a little bit lopsided and his eyes a bit crossed and squinting.
I definitely recommend the vet. Also maybe talk to the vet about cbd oil. I use it for my dog for the seizures. It hasnt stopped them but reduced them greatly.
