My dog was not anywhere near as bad as Lochan. He was just, well, stoned. Poor Lochan (dog and no doubt human) sounds to have been in an extremely distressed state. Poor girl.

Well the poisoning victim slept soundly all night at my feet, she was lying in contact with me all night and doesn't normally do that so clearly felt a bit disoriented and needed to know where I was. This morning she seems OK, all the neurological signs have gone, she is eating and drinking OK but is very sleepy still, wants to be touching me all the time and clearly found the whole experience scary. I think for me the worst bit was realising immediately she had been poisoned by something, and with the onset of marked neurological signs not knowing what it was - the relief of getting normal blood results was enormous as it ruled out many of the irrecoverable nasties. Most dogs I have seen with marijuana poisoning in the past have just been like Nicolae - incontinent and stoned - but you do get the odd one like Lochan who can be really ill with it. Deaths are rare. Same as people I suppose. However, now the campaign to get the police to do something about the teenagers drinking and taking drugs in this area is going to swing in to action - watch this space - I believe there is a famous quote along the lines of "all it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing....."

    Go for it.

You have every right to be livid that those louts caused your girl (and you) to have such a bad experience.

Glad to hear that she is steadily improving :)

So very pleased that Lochan seems to be alright this morning . I can fully understand her being clingy, she must have been terrified, poor soul . Good luck with your campaign , this needs to be stopped before there is a fatal consequence x

I found a small marijuana plant under my bird feeder recently! Obviously grew from the bird seed. I thought it was quite funny at the time - not realizing the poisonous properties to dogs  .

My dad was a headmaster of a large primary school which had all the usual pets (ah, those were the days) including a big outdoor aviary of mixed birds. One day the police school liaison officer called in for a chat and commented on the lovely crop of marijuana growing in the aviary! No one had a clue, apparently it often grows from bird seed.

Oh my goodness what a horrible experience for you and your poor dog! Glad that it all seems to be getting better - and thanks for giving us a heads up about the dangers of marijuana for dogs. I had no idea!! Another thing to be vigilant about!

Good grief, I have just read this. I am so very sorry that poor Lochan and you have been through this terrible experience. How is Lochan? Thankfully not all teenagers behave in this way and are that selfish. Please let us know how she is. Helen x :'(

Lochan is absolutely fine today. We had a family trip to the beach with much swimming, digging and football, and shared a picnic and had ice creams on the way home. I think she quite likes the outrageous spoiling that is happening as a result of her horrible experience.....and Tarkie is getting the same even though nothing happened to her so its a win-win situation all round for the labradors!

Some photos of the recovery picnic at the beach today. In the first one Lochan has the ball and Tarkie has the mad ears. In the second one Lochan is attempting to persuade me to share my sandwich. She is clearly telling me that marijuana ingestion causes "The Munchies" in dogs too.[IMG]
