OH NO was on a full day retreat yesterday - blasted work - and missed this drama!! Julie, so very very relieved to hear Charlie is ok!!!!! What a shocker. Thank goodness it all ended up all right. You must have been beside yourself with worry. Well done for taking things seriously. But really - batteries - who would have thought of that one??? An electrifying experience.

Have to say though - nice one Charlie. Straight into the big white bed. Result… 8) 8)

Relief to read this morning that Charlie is much improved and that you can go to the course and there will be things you can do. I am so interested in the course as she is almost on my doorstep and I had wondered about telling you about her but thinking you were too far away! I may go myself on her day courses when I hear of your experience.

    ;D ;D ;D

He seems fine, a little sleepy, that's probably the meds. Not pooing - meds too, I reckon.

Just found out I'm one battery short for the new crate fans I bought. ::)

    Too right.

Right now, he is on his back in the armchair having slivers of ice (very well crushed then 20 seconds in the microwave so it doesn't need crunching but dissolves in his mouth) dropped on his poorly tongue....

After a good walk with soft treats, a dip in his paddling pool to cool his paws, and then a large volume wet food supper - and excused from teeth cleaning. Before sleeping on my Egyptian cotton sheets tonight.

    ::) ::) ::)

    Re: Poorly Charlie

    Ah, thanks for asking.

We had a disrupted evening - he needed several emergency poo trips to the garden.

I keep a few boxes of pro-kolin in, so dosed him up. It's the meds, I reckon - tramadol normally makes him a bit constipated, so hope he's not all bunged up now with the pro-kolin as well.

Anyway, he was fine on his walk this morning - bouncing around as per. He is sleepy now, but had tramadol in his breakfast so that's probably knocked him out.

I'm a bit doubtful about the tramadol. It's a high dose and has been prescribed for 2 weeks. I'm not keen on painkillers for so long. I'll give the vet a call today and ask whether, if Charlie seems to be dong better in a day or so, I should reduce the dose.

    How's he doing now?

Is the tramadol still making him sleepy? I wonder if the worst of it is over if he can be 'downgraded' to metacam? Or at least a lower tramadol dose...

    Re: Poorly Charlie

Ah, thanks Helen - it was a shock.

It healed up quickly though. He now has just a little bit on his tongue that is a bit pinker than normal. He made it a tiny bit worse when he fetched some canvas dummies last week (so we switched to soft toys) but apart from that, it's been a fast recovery.

Of course every time he so much as burps now I'm poised to whip him down to the vet in case of any complications, but he really seems fine.

I have to say though, having looked into it, the most common places for dogs to get batteries to chew are from TV remote controls (Charlie nicked the ones he chewed out of the study) so the remote controls are now kept well out of reach. I missed these when I did my sweep through of the house but then remembered. We have to get up every time we want to change TV channel! Like the good old days...
