Poor Charlie! Never mind..was curious as to how much Charlie weighed before his enforced rest? I ask because he looks to be similar build naturally to Benson :)

I think Benson looks like a bigger dog (I mean build, not weight) but it's so hard to tell from photos. I must take you up on that cuppa as I go up the M5 and we can try to take a photo of them together!

When he was injured, he weighed just under 28kg - he was 9 months old then. During the first part of his rest period, before I got a decent programme worked out, he put on 1.5kg so 29.5kgs. This was too heavy, although he wasn't obese or anything like that.

He was 27.5kg at 13months when he had his op. In the period immediately following that, when he was on crate rest with no exercise at all, he went up to just over 28kgs.

Now, he stays between 27.5kg and 28.5kg - I have a target weight in my mind of 28kgs, and happy to see him just below.

Charlie looked much "chunkier" when he was younger than he does now - at 10 weeks, you'd have thought he was destined to be a super heavy dog. But no as it turned out. This is because he seemed to have a late spurt of growth and his legs got longer! Which sort of made him look in better proportion and a bit finer.

He is just on UK breed standard at 56.5cm tall (22 1/4 inches), but this is 1/4 of an inch below the very lower end of the US breed standard. And he is 5lbs lighter than the minimum weight for a male dog specified in the US breed standard! Which I find astonishing.

Charlie says thanks for the good wishes, he is feeling much better already - after the shot and the gravy bones at the vet's - and has resumed his critical duties of ear lick mugging everyone who comes to the house and walks passed his window.

Charlie has had a good haul of mugged ears this afternoon....he seems to be getting back to normal alright.

I should have done something about this ear licking thing when he was a pup, shouldn't I? Oh well, it seems a bit late now...

    Brilliant photo ;D

Glad Charlie is feeling better and able to help make sure people have washed their ears. ;D

Has anybody Charlie's been in contact with had a cold or sore throat. Apparently dogs can catch sore throats off humans. My friends dog had a sore throat. At the vets she happened to mention her children had had colds and sore throats. The vet said that could be how he got it.

Hope he continues to improve quickly and gets the all clear on Friday.

Can I ask did Charlie just let the vet look at his throat ?

What a lucky boy to have so many ears to kiss ;D I can understand your concern that the sore throat 'might' have been due to the battery acid, maybe he is a little more sensitive in that area due to the battery, so stick eating has caused this. Hope he gets better very quickly.

Lordy, if it's a cold, Charlie's now given it to half the town! ::) I don't think he has been anywhere where people have a cold though.

He was pretty relaxed, and she looked at what she could - he doesn't mind people opening his mouth (he nearly got her ears ;D) but said that she'd have to sedate him to see more. She felt his throat from the outside too - I can't feel anything though.
