Re: Poorly lad What a relief now you know what it is and you can deal with it just with diet. Glad Sam is feeling happier on his new diet.
Re: Poorly lad Thanks for asking both of you, much appreciated , good to know he is being thought of Sam is doing great so am cautiously optimistic , have devised a diet for him and so far so good, he looks good , coat great , stamina great and firm poo ! The diet might sound a bit odd, but it must be very low fat, so I cant feed him all raw , he couldn't cope with the fat on bones and skin , am happy that he is getting all the nutriments he needs even though its like running a canteen as I am prepping all his food myself, but he is so worth it
Re: Poorly lad Just caught up on this. Sorry to hear poor Sam has all this trouble. I guess you are becoming a Masterchef for dogs? He's in safe hands.

Re: Poorly lad Glad Sam is doing so well on your homemade diet, what are you making for him Kate? Good boy Sam, big hugs from us xxxx
Re: Poorly lad Thanks Helen , he is having just a small amount of his kibble, gradually phasing it out . With this, he has either cooked brown rice or potato , sometimes sweet potato, along with lightly cooked veggies , mainly greens . His protein comes from either raw lean meat, minced rabbit or beef , or his very favourite low fat cottage cheese which gives him calcium along with the protein . A couple of times a week he has raw offal , not liver as it had disastrous results , but he can handle heart and kidney in small quantities . I have to keep his fat content to under 10% , so no cheese or oily fish but he can have white fish . Now that I`ve written it down, it sounds like the most bizarre diet ever, but it is suiting him , firm poo and only one or two a day , his coat is great and he has stamina so I cant knock it
Re: Poorly lad Well done Kate all sounds good and great Sam is enjoying it, you could start up your own business xx
Re: Poorly lad How about your stamina Kate with all this doggie catering? Glad he's doing well. Sam and I would have to agree to differ on the subject of cottage cheese - I loathe the stuff.
Re: Poorly lad I'm glad Sam is doing well on his new diet. What comes out the other end is the key. . It sounds a very interesting diet Kate. It might be low fat but I bet he prefers it to dry kibble all that meat etc. Keep up the good work chef.
Re: Poorly lad I also loathe cottage cheese with a passion Its not really too much trouble , I guess there are prepared low fat foods available but they tend to be hyper expensive and I do like to know what he`s having, both of them really as Millie has the same
Re: Poorly lad Kate (and others?) - is there a reason you are lightly cooking his veg? My lazy nature, I would just give it raw.....
Re: Poorly lad Jacqui , I did read that dogs cant break down the cell walls of raw veg, but can do if its lightly cooked . I think the advantages of things like raw carrots are for the crunch ( teeth ) rather than any nutrient value as they pass straight through ?
