Scouts had frozen tail three times. I call it Labrador droop. ;D

The first time he was very uncomfortable with it. Couldnt sit or lie down. I took him to the vet. My dogs get into a right state going to the vet. When we got there I noticed his tail was back up. I'm guessing due to adrenaline. ::)

The last two times it doesn't seem to have bothered him and rights itself after a couple of days.

The last time it happened he was wet on and off all day because of heavy rain and he did a lot of extreme wagging because my cousin came. I'm now very careful to dry the base of his tail thoroughly. I don't alter his exercise as it doesn't seem to bother him when walking etc.

Hope Harley is more waggy this morning. :)

I went to a talk by a vet last night and the subject of Limber Tail came up, vet suggested we keep a couple of anti-inflammatory tabs by us for many things, said vet would be happy to supply. She also explained why human anti-inflammatory were not suitable for dogs as they process them in a different way.

Just phoned the vets - got to take her back up at 11.45am. They are going to check her tail again and have suggested the possibility of taking X-rays which would mean a sedative :'( I'm hoping they don't feel the need to do this as she already has a massive fear of the vets! I'm feeling really s***e at the minute and hate seeing her in so much pain ;(

My old black lab, Tammy, used to suffer from frozen tail. She wasn't a swimmer - it seemed to be triggered by cold weather. She'd get an egg-sized lump at the top of the tail which made it painful to wag. With anti inflammatories and painkillers it would usually clear up after a couple of days.

Ah, she's been a bit in the wars lately - you must be feeling it's a bit unfair. I hope it's soon sorted for you. Best wishes to you, and fingers and paws crossed here.

Vets have given her Tramadol, metacam and NSAIDS to try and help. The base of her tail has swollen up and she was crying when she was toileting ;( she is currently asleep on her vet bed, think it hurts too much to get up on the sofa :(

Poor Harley. Hopefully she will improve quickly with the meds.

Do you know what she was doing before her tail flopped ? I guess the cold weather won't have helped.

    Re: Possible frozen tail ;(

We aren't sure how it happened. I took her out for an hour at lunch time (she always has a min of an hour walk anytime between 11am and 4pm). She was retrieving dummies and balls, but that is normal for our walks. It was a bit more structured than other walks earlier this week which meant less free running. She was ok when we got home. It might just be because the temperature dropped to 2C yesterday which is our coldest day yet!
She has been whining every time she wakes up ;(
She is also farting a lot, and my god, it STINKS!! She usually only farts very occasionally.....in the last hour it has been 5 times, each more potent than the last ::) think the meds are having an impact on this?

The meds could be causing the excessive wind if it's only started since she began taking them. :-\

Did she run in for the ball maybe catch her tail when came to a halt ? That and the cold weather would make sense.

Poor wee soul. Lochan gets this occasionally and she is really miserable with it too. Hopefully the pain meds will kick in soon and she'll feel better tomorrow.

It's so awful when they're in pain. I understand how stressed you feel!! I really hope she picks up tomorrow. Thinking of you both.
