He’s back home!! Henry was really happy to see me but very groggy from the anaesthetic but on all four legs.

The vet has given me some post-op instructions and medication, he will be on Cephalexin antibiotics and Carprofen for anti-inflammatory and pain starting tomorrow morning.

He’s slept in the car all the way home and so far has been a good patient for me, he’s whimpered a few times as I’m sure there is discomfort and some mild pain after having a lump removed.

I’m home with him for the rest of today then I have to be back at work tomorrow, he’s due back at the vet on Friday to see how the healing is progressing and to have a bandage/dressing change.

Thanks everyone for your messages of support and having Henry in your thoughts today - he’s one very special companion and friend to me and I’m so grateful to have him back home.

Wishing Henry a good recovery - you must be relieved to have him home, even though he looks a bit ‘spaced out’.

Poor boy. Good luck with the bandage/chewing.
Does he have a collar? For when you are not watching him?

Get well soon, Henry. He does look sleepy - such a sweet-faced and handsome boy. :)

Speedy recovery gorgeous Henry. Agree about a buster collar to stop him getting to the stitches, we've all been there xxx

He may need a collar once the bandage comes off later in the week or sometime next week, he’s asleep on the bed next to me and hasn’t moved much except the odd trip out the back to the toilet.

While on the subject he hasn’t done a #2 since I brought him home, granted he didn’t have breakfast this morning and has only had half his normal amount of food today.

I really appreciate all the replies here and he will be slowly on the mend over the next few days - his eyes are very droopy (reminds me of a basset hound!)

This isn't unusual after a general anaesthetic. It can take a while for things to get moving again!

Thanks snowbunny - his pipes were back to normal again this morning after he had a full breakfast, Henry is more himself today so far as he was happy to get a belly rub and was more alert with more wag in his tail :)

Glad Henry is feeling more himself today. Vigilance is the key - I guarantee he can get that bandage off in under five minutes if he really wants...

I arrived home from work today and happy to report the bandage is still intact and Henry hasn’t attempted to remove or chew at it. He had his dew claw removed on his front right leg last year and he didn’t attempt to remove that bandage but keeping it dry was a challenge as there was some wet weather while he had that bandage on.

He is a lot more active and happy today playing more with his toys and eager to have his evening meal. I’m sure when the bandage does come off he will be busy licking and cleaning his leg, the stitches he has are dissolvable so at least he won’t be subjected to having them removed in the next few weeks.

I believe it's as it starts to dry out that it starts itching and that's when the dog is most likely to start fussing at it. At least the stitches are dissolvable - the vets over here don't seem to use those. It's regular stitches or staples

Good boy, Henry! It's good to hear that he's enjoying his toys and food again. Watch that bandage, though - don't let him lull you into a false sense of security. It's amazing what they can do in the blink of an eye! ;)

So pleased to read that Henry is back to his normal self. When do you get the results from the vet?
