Nothing very spectacular , but I wanted to share what happened yesterday . It was a horrible day , feeling very teary and also the weather was foul , but I took her to Golitha Falls for a walk , very few people around . Sadly , the main path doesn't last for long before becoming unfit for wheelchair users , and after our little ramble, we wandered back to where the stable path ends , there is a bench and easy access to the river for dogs , it was Sams favourite place to swim . A lady carer was sitting at the bench , next to a young man in a wheelchair , just enjoying the peace and beauty , Nelly scampered up to say Hello and received much fuss from the lady . The man asked me if I would allow Nelly to sit on his knee as his disabilities wouldn't allow him to reach down and stroke her , he explained that he adored dogs . I lifted Nelly up onto his knee whereupon she smothered him in kisses , much to his delight , in fact he declared that she had a face he could fall in love with ! We set off to walk slowly back to the car park as it was raining heavily , and Nelly stayed sitting on his knee like a little dolly , loving her special ride , and the look on the young mans face was priceless . I felt humbled , the lady said that her charge would not forget this , that it had made his day , his week ! Bless her x
That's a lovely tale, it's so good that that Nelly can give such a positive experience to someone. A fine example of how dogs can enrich lives, and it must help to heal the void left by Sam. Maybe it was his spirit made that happen.
Awww...sweet Nelly is officially an unofficial therapy dog! You know Sam has to be cheering on his little protege.
Brought tears to my eyes. What a very special little dog giving the young man such happiness. It gives me such a wonderful, visual 'memory' of what he must still be feeling.
You must be really proud Kate, Nelly is a credit to you - definitely WAS something spectacular to bring such joy to someones day.
Thank you, for all the lovely comments . Nelly is quite delightful , and we truly don't know how we would have got through this sad time without her to cheer us . She is a reason to get up , go out and generally get on with life , a very different life without Sam . I think it was all part of some big plan , that I saw her advertised by chance , and went to fetch her , she needed us, but oh boy we have needed her over the past four weeks and she has delivered comfort in her own little way xx
Ah, this bought tears to my eyes too. Thank goodness for little Nelly. Odd, sometimes things happen that, in hindsight seemed to have been arranged because they were needed.
