My vet gave me a good tip to stop dog pulling on lead and it works brilliantly!
Just wave a thin stick, vertically like a pendulum in front of the dog"s nose as you walk along.
Take away every now and again and just put back if dog moves in front again. Very effective.

Charlie would think "Fantastic!! We're playing catch the stick!" I reckon I'd stay on my feet for seconds! But he's a hooligan, it might work better with better behaved dogs.

Welcome to this lovely forum! Tell us a bit about your pup/dog?

Well she's an 8 month old black lab and very sweet natured. Sleeps in a crate and loves to chew things.
Only surprise has been her strength on the lead(my last dog was a King Charles Cavalier) but the stick method seems to be working,

I did something similar to the stick method with my previous dog, a Border Collie who was a terrible puller. Once the dog is in heel position, you hold the lead quite a ways down, closer to the dog, so that there is only a foot or so between you hand and the dog (not that you crouch down or anything, just so it comfortable for you). Then with the other hand, you take the slack of the lead and whirl it in front of the dog's nose as you are walking if he starts to move out of the heel position. You are not making contact with the dog at all, just putting a barrier in front as you are moving. It actually works pretty well, stops the dog from moving too far ahead and helps him understand what you mean by "heel".. But it probably wouldn't work with every dog, especially with those who might already be tempted to grab the lead. ::)

Of course one day we were doing this and a horrible snarly white terrier came rushing at us (one that I've had issues with before, it was truly annoying), barking and lunging, so instinctively I just snapped the long end of the lead at it, to try to dissuade it from getting closer. Nasty owner who finally noticed his dog was being a pest screamed "Don't you hit my dog!! You can beat your dog all you want but leave my dog alone!!" Plus many expletive deletives, of course. All the while his dog was snarling and snapping at me and my dog, who was dancing around trying to get away. Sigh.

I would have told you to have given my dog a jolly good snap with the lead ;D
