Libby is 7 months old today! One of my greatest amusements is a game she's made up: she tries to carry a ball and a soft toy in her mouth at the same time. She'll grab the ball and go especially to find a soft toy and will spend ages trying to pick them both up. When she's succeeded she'll drop them and do it over and over again. What games do your puppies do by themselves?
Harley does exactly the same She also plays 'shake the big teddy as hard as you can' game. She occasionally de-stuffs one teddy, but has never de-stuffed lambie!! She will also play with her ball by rolling it away with her nose then run after it and stop it with her paws and 'dribble' it back.
Awww...Libby is in training for the "dog who can carry the most stuff in her mouth at the same time" award. Brogan wasn't much on amusing himself - mainly because he didn't have to as his Mama Jodhi was always there to amuse him (or use as a sofa, as the case may be). My first dog, however, was an only child so very good at keeping himself entertained. He had a big jolly ball that he liked to kick around for himself and liked to take his stuffies out of the toy box, lay them out on the grass for a bit of sun, then bring them back in in the evening (ahem...we had to work on the last step of that process). My dad also made a bicycle tire/spring/towel contraption that hung from an oscillating hook from the ceiling and he'd happily jump at it then swing on it until he couldn't hang on it anymore. But his FAVOURITE game (which I've mentioned here before) was to have a big beach towel tied to his head and walk around bumping into walls. My dad did this as a (dumb) joke to him as a puppy (my dad is "special") and Duncan loved it. Weird dog. When the towel fell off, he'd come back to you with the towel in mouth and stare at you with big sad eyes until you tied it to his head and he was off again. I would just kind of drape it on him so it would fall off pretty quickly, but my dad would tie it in knots and it would last forever. Yes, I also think this is not a great idea and today I would tell my dad to knock it off if he tried it, but for whatever reason, Duncan thought it was THE BEST GAME EVER. Otherwise, he was a really smart dog. Honestly!
Rolling the ball down a bank into a river is Rorys thing along with burying balls in deep thick gooey mud then truffling them out.
Mollie does a 'Mollie Maul' - she takes two or three toys to her bed and rolls around with them in her paws and/or teeth - very cute xx ...
Quinn puts her ball under a blanket or pillow, leaps on it and "digs" it out. She also plays fetch with herself....throws the ball from her mouth or rolls it with her nose, chases it and does it again and again. She plays this with herself constantly (and we think when she is home alone, as her balls are usually out of her toy box when we get home).
'Steal The Toilet Roll, But Only First Thing In The Morning ' game ....still at the age of 4, you got to love his persistence ! X
