Has anyone else had problems with their puppies only pooping at night? My girl's 10 weeks old so has been home for 2 weeks. First week poops were on schedule usually within half an hour of eating. The second week she had a tummy upset from a raw bone, vet has prescribed probiotics for the next few weeks to balance her gut bacteria. After the tummy upset she's not pooping regularly after every meal, never going during the day, but waking at least 3 times during the night to go then. Has anyone ever had a similar issue? What did you do to fix it, or any suggestions? Thanks
My puppy used to poo at night when I took her out twice at night initially. As she got older, this stopped. She had various tummy upsets. By 18 weeks when she started going right through the night without the need to toilet, she was pooing at more regular times during the day. Just took time - their little systems eventually sort themselves out.
I expect this will settle after her tummy sorts itself out, it is the pits though, having a puppy with an upset stomach! With Bramble when things went a bit awry after a tummy issue, (she was a terrible scavenger!) we popped her on Protexin Pro Fibre for dog. This gave some bulk to her stools and helped regain normal digestive function. I also rewarded her when she did go after a meal I now always keep a pot in the cupboard for emergencies!
