Re: Puppy or Rescue? Help me make my mind up! Thanks again, everyone. For the advice, suggestions and the gorgeous photos. It is really reasuring to hear how many people successfully combine children and Labradors. I am going keep looking into both rescue and puppy options for a little while. Hopefully I will know the right dog or puppy when they come along! And despite how ridiculously impatient I feel, I am confident that taking my time to make the most informed decision is the sensible thing to do I will let you all know how I get along! Thanks again, Lucy x
Re: Puppy or Rescue? Help me make my mind up! Oh yes, I understand your impatience very well! I had rescue Cavaliers when I worked and my parents and MIL came every day to look after them - they had a rota going! But I had to wait for a Lab pup until I retired as the old folks would never have managed a big dog. Many years waiting! Tatze is well worth the wait, of course - she's two next month, the time flies! (The weeks between choosing her and collecting her were the hardest - they felt like torture to me, my Lab obsession really built up then! But it continues apace. Now I am beginning the exciting wait for the next Guide Dog pup to arrive, which is bittersweet of course as Gypsy will be leaving)
Hi guys, Thanks so much for all of your help and advice. After a lot of back and forthing for weeks (as you can see from the original posting date!) we have decided to go with puppy - but to wait until next year. By then my daughter will be a little older (and hopefully a bit more sensible), and less easy for a boisterous young dog to knock flying! I am very sad to have to wait, but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end
So pleased to read this Lucy , but a shame you have to wait , its most likely for the best as I`m sure you don't need telling that Labrador pups can be very bouncy, good luck with your search for the right one
Sounds like a really good plan to me. You can spend the time researching breeders and asking about litters they are planning for next year. I'd go for parents that are A1 on the health front and also have very laid back temperaments. And a knowledgeable/experienced breeder who raises the pups with their needs foremost.
Hope the planning is exciting rather than tedious. I am convinced you will do a good job of choosing a fab puppy.
