any advice on what to do when my 2 month old puppy gets angry when told off especially when over excited
Re: puppy over excited anger Hi and welcome to the forum I don't think puppies get angry, it's more frustration. If needs be put him/her in another room for a to e out (only a min or so). Keep doing this and they will learn that that behaviour doesn't get rewarded. What is your pups name? Boy or a girl?
Re: puppy over excited anger Hi, we found a crate invaluable for this sort of thing. It gives them a nice secure area for a 'time out' where hopefully they should feel happy and relaxed. A crate certainly saved my sanity when Molly was very young! Vikki
Re: puppy over excited anger Hi Chrissie, it isn't anger, it's play. Small pups sound pretty ferocious when they play and can bite and snarl impressively! Have a look at the biting series on the main site.
Re: puppy over excited anger We find distraction works well, one of ours is a bit snappy and vocal when chastised if he's excited and the other goes off with the face on lol. We get a toy like a ragger and dangle it over them and they soon lay chewing that. I also try to calm them by stroking them and praising them for calmer behaviour. They are 11 weeks old tomorrow. I recommend reading the link that Pippa posted.
Re: puppy over excited anger Hi Chrissie! Welcome to the forum. We found a crate invaluable too. Its really easy for pups to get overtired and act like fractious toddlers. Hope you manage to read Pippa's link. jac

Re: puppy over excited anger Hi Chrissie - yes, even our Pongo (who is the most placid, laid back labrador ever born) went through the wild biting phase. It isn't anger, it is excitement, and desperately wanting to play with you. We found that the ABSOLUTELY most effective way of getting a message through to Pongo was the 'ignore and walk away' whenever he behaved in a way we didn't want. This had to include breaking all eye contact. It was very, very effective - he learned almost instantly that if he 'attacked' then we didn't react or play any more, and he completely stopped. It did take a few weeks for him to remember it every time : but the message got through. Good luck, and tell us how you get on! Rosie

Re: puppy over excited anger Hi there and welcome to you and Milo. Don't worry, this phase will pass (though it is difficult while you are going through it!). But we have all been there and understand.
