Nellie is off to her first puppy party tonight at our veterinary surgery. The pups are all aged between 8-12 weeks so should be good. I will make sure I get lots of pics. We took her to a neighbours house last night who has a 6 year old yellow lab (ex guide dog brood bitch) and her almost 5 month old guide dog puppy. Nellie had a ball although was a little nervous at first as the other pup is huge so was a bit intimidated by these 2 large dogs! She played with the pup for a good 35-40 minutes but she's was a bit rough and made Nellie yelp out quite a few times, mainly by howling her over! Do you think this play is good or should I limit it as I was a bit concerned that she might get hurt at such a young age?
Re: Puppy party tonight! Play it by ear Nicola , just see how she is . Some pups welcome the madness that a puppy party can be, others are more reserved , even finding it stressful , theres no way of telling how Nellie will be, so watch her and remove her if she shows signs of being overwhelmed , look forward to hearing about it
Re: Puppy party tonight! I hope it goes really well and you both enjoy it Take plenty of high value treats!
Re: Puppy party tonight! Enjoy the puppy party Nicola, Buster went to one at the vets when he was 8 weeks old, to start with he was unsure but by the end he absolutely loved it, and we all had the best nights sleep as Buster was shattered, the lady holding the party now trains Buster (he's 19 weeks old today) had it very controled by giving the owners info and if we had any questions and letting a few of the puppies play by size to see how they were but only for a few minutes at a time, she said you should end it when they are enjoying themselves so they want more. Also to see if your pup is enjoying the play gently pull the other dog away and see if your pup comes to him/her then you know thet are enjoying the play. I wish it was a weekly party as Buster loved it and the only other dog he has access to is our in-laws dog who is great but will knock Buster flying, even now Buster wants to play with him, but still darts between our legs for protection. Have fun your pup and you will love it.
Re: Puppy party tonight! Our puppy training was very similar....a few minutes training, then a break for some chat and explanations.....a few minutes play (carefully watched by the trainer and introducing one pup at a time into the fray), then a break. Riley enjoyed it
Re: Puppy party tonight! Have lots of fun. ;D Don't know about the pups but I'd love it all those bundles of Labrador. Lovely. I agree with the other advice you've had. Just keep an eye on her you will know if it's too much and just take her to one side. She will still get benefit from watching.
Re: Puppy party tonight! Hope you have a good time! Juno loves her puppy party's she has been to two now, I look forward to them as well. She is so happy around other puppies, gets a little over excited at times, but she is certainly not the naughtiest puppy in the class! So funny watching them play and interact. Plus I love the fact that after the session she is worn out and we get an evening of peace!! Make the most of it and let us know how you got on!
Re: Puppy party tonight! The party was fun and Nellie seemed to love it. She is now crashed out! There were 4 other dogs there, 2 huge choc labs who were brothers and 11 weeks old, an 11 week old Cockerpoo and a miniature jack Russell who was 8 weeks old and tiny! Most of the mischief was caused by the choc brothers rolling around and bowling everyone over but at the end they were a little intimated by the miniature Jack Russell who proved that his bite was definitely worse than they had imagined by looking at him! ;D ;D ;D I will post pics shortly.
Re: Puppy party tonight! Sounds like great fun! At Maisie's puppy party we had a 16 week old New Foundland pup who was enourmous, a hugh 18 weeks retireiver and a teeny tiny 12 week cockerpoo! It was the Cockerpoo who was in charge!!! ;D ;D
Re: Puppy party tonight! Apologies but the quality of the pics are a little poor, snapped from my iPhone! The choc brothers had to be distracted for a while to give the little ones a bit of breathing space!! Re: Puppy party tonight! Aww.....feeling all smiley now I love the one with the two puppy kongs. Just like feeding time at nursery
