Hi all, Looking for a bit of advice. When I came downstairs this morning Stanley had been sick in his crate. It was just bile and there was no food or anything in it. Do you think he was just hungry? I'm not sure when he was sick as I didn't hear anything. But he had a solid poo this morning (sorry if that's TMI) and wolfed his breakfast down the same as always. He gets fed at 7.30 am 1pm and 6.30pm - should I move his last feed to a bit later? It's never seemed to bother him before? Any help would be appreciated ☺️
Yep, it could be because he's hungry. Maybe try keeping a small portion of his dinner aside and give it to him just before he goes to bed. That should keep his tummy from being too empty.
I'm also feeding Wuki 3 times a day, though people say it would be better 4 times until 3 months. He is eating at 6 AM, 1 PM, 7 PM. I slowly decrease the food amount along the day per vet's recommendation (bigger doses in the morning, a bit smaller at noon, then very small in the evening), and i still keep some kibble for training, so I'm not giving him his complete allowance on the 3 meals. As he stays out of the pen from 7 to 10 pm with regular strolls to the garden, i usually keep giving him the rest of the food until 10 pm, while training or playing. I also use the food to make him socialize more with our kids (5 and 9). Hand feeding is a great bonding experience and all the people in the house must be involved. At 10 pm, he goes for a last stroll in our garden, then we clean him and his pen/bed, give him some cuddle time with us, and then off to bed. Never had any troubles with puking and such. Don't be afraid of using the food on different timings than meal time. We use and abuse of food for training, keeping him calmer when he should and so on, just don't forget reducing the allowance from meal time!
When Cooper was much younger she threw up bile a few times early in the morning. Some folks here suggested that it was because she was hungry, and it seemed to be true. Haven't seen it happen for a long time now.
Harley eats at 7/8am then 6.30/7pm. She has treats during the day also. At 9pm she begins the 'munchies stalking' back and forth to the kitchen. This is the time we have a small snack of some sort. It's helped her tummy as she can be sensitive.
I always give my two, three biscuits each when they go to bed Bile can mean the pup is hungry, so a wee meal duing the evening or even a Bonio will help.
Thanks everyone. It happened again this morning so definitely going to have to try some food on a night for him. See how he gets on with it and if not a trip to the vets. I'll go and get him some nice biscuits he can have before bed
I ended up taking Stanley to the vets as he kept being sick even though I'd given him some food at about 10pm. They suggested I give him so toast which I have tried tonight, but he won't eat it. Even with some peanut butter on. Any advice? Thanks
Cooper is not 2-1/2 years old but, when he was a pup,he threw up bile in the morning....called the vet.....empty stomach! Suggestion was save a bit of his dinner for the very end of the pup's night before going to bed. No problems since. I also do give him (still) two little Mother Hubbard Liver biscuits before going to bed.....yes, his breath is "livery" but he loves his wee biscuits! Guess when you are a little puppy an empty stomach makes you throw up bile. Easy solution, though.
