Hollie is on skinners f&t puppy and I can't find what age to change her to adult? ?? I seem to remember reading 9 months but not sure, she is nearly 7 months? ? Thanks in advance
Re: puppy to adult food We have always found puppy food too rich so change off ASAP usually when they can chew a bigger biscuit. Never had a dog have any problem so I am sure any age would be fine.
Re: puppy to adult food The guidelines are on the website: http://www.skinnerspetfoods.co.uk/store/working-dogs/puppy-food/ They say to feed the puppy food until "approximately 9 months".
Re: puppy to adult food Lucan was on Skinners Puppy and we changed to adult at 6mths, certainly didn't do him any harm.
Re: puppy to adult food Bouncr is on Skinners Puppy Lamb & Rice & I have just had a letter from Skinners to tell me to change food at 6 months, I talked to my food stockists who said larger dogs should change there food later (8 to 9 months) as they have more growing to do than small dogs. Although it is the dealers interest to say that as puppy food is so much more expensive. I talked to my vet about it who said any time after 6 months is normal. I have just bought a new bag of Puppy food (Bouncer is 5 months) when he gets toward 6 months I will start to change his diet to adult. He seems to eat just about anything so it shouldnt be a problem.
Re: puppy to adult food Go on to adult food as soon as your puppy bag is finished - it's not that different
Re: puppy to adult food Whether, and how, puppy food is different from adult food depends on the brand. It is worth checking the ingredients to see what the difference is, and then working out whether and when you want to switch your puppy to a lower protein food (typically, but definitely not always, that is the difference). It's perfectly possible to find adult foods with a higher protein level than some puppy foods, so it is worth looking at the label if your objective is to reduce protein (or fat - whatever) levels.
