    Hi all

I'm keen to keep training with Bella ( she's 5 months now) I already own the happy puppy handbook and total recall ( great books) but want to progress with her clicker training as we seem to be doing the same things and I'm getting bored so Bella must be ....she picked up her tricks at 9 weeks plus. I've ordered the Karen Pryor clicker training book but any other recommendations for puppies who can do the basics sit, lay, give paw, high five, get down, spin, fetch, sit-stay, I don't want to waste money on books focusing on these things she knows but go a bit more advanced ....

Also pet gundog training, agility, kennel club schemes etc - what are people's thoughts ? Agility I'm guessing 12 months plus? Re kc scheme - is it worth starting from bronze?

    Thanks

I have Learning Games by Kay Lawrence, which has lots of ideas of games to play with your dog at various stages of its development. It's not an easy read, and you need to understand the basics of clicker training, but there's some great ideas in there.

I've also just bought (still awaiting:(
Other End of the Leash by Patricia B McConnell
Clicker Training: The Perfect Foundation (Levels 1 and 2) by Kay Laurence
Clicker Gundog (Level 3) by Helen Phillips

Clearly I can't give you any feedback on these three, but they were all recommended :)

That's a great reading list suggested by Fiona. Those are all great.

I agree Kay Lawrence's stuff isn't all that easy to read, she has her own way of putting things, but still worth the money and time I think.

If you just want one, the perfect foundation is the one to get for a 5 month old pup.

Regarding classes; there is a kennel club puppy foundation award, but if your pup can already do the basics you might find it a bit boring. Obedience can be done at any age, but you should speak to the trainer for KC bronze in case there's a minimum age limit before they can join the class.

I found Rally Obedience great fun but it's still relatively unknown in the UK so you might have a problem finding a class.

Oh I'm probably going to explain it really badly now hahaha!

It's almost like a cross between obedience and agility (though not at the early stages) and you go round like an obstacle course using heel work techniques and obedience. So you you'll have basic things like left and right turns, about turns, sit-stay or down-stay and then slightly more difficult things like weaving between cones, 270degree turns, an agility jump etc.

Classes will trach you all the different moves and commands, and put them together in a course which you get timed at. If you're really good there are competitions and you can win titles just like obedience or agility.

They've not arrived yet. I only ordered them this week and it normally takes about ten working days for stuff to be delivered to me here. I'll let you know when they arrive. I'd read the same thing.
