Had a disastrous walk this morning! Just getting light let the house (normally hubby does this walk..) first mistake left my doggy bag at home (complete with whistle, treats, clicker..) thought OK we can manage this!

    Nope.

No recall to speak of...from either.

Benson was really acting up. Wanting to play and really pushing his luck with other dogs. He was so frustrating! Not helped by a nice walker who was really struggling with 3 dogs on lead and one off lead. She just stood there not knowing what to do, when Benson bounced up (not sure I would either mind..) asked her to walk on whilst I clipped both dogs on leads, with a bouncing kangeroo this is easier said than done. Just as I thought I had Caspers lead clipped when he slipped off and to my horror was running towards 2 very dangerous Akitas. These are on lead (by law) as they have killed dogs :( . I felt sick at this point. Casper however, is steetwise, his hackles went up, and he stood stiff legged, snarling at them..they barked but not really lunging at him then Casper tail in air trotted back to me, I was sooo relieved, the owner of these 2 akitas does not muzzle his dogs, just walks them close, well they walk him as they tend to pull quite a bit.

Was so glad to get home, felt exhausted when I got back...just chalk it up to experience I guess, you can pre-empt a lot by careful planning, but sometimes it just doesn't work out the way we planned...sigh...

That sounds scary - glad Casper came out of it OK. It's draining when you have a walk lie that isn't it.

High winds also make dogs go a bit crazy! They say you should never train dogs in a wind and I am just off for a gundog lesson, mad!

Doesn't matter how old and sensible they are, a good high wind = high jinx every time. The current two were wild today, and my old girl Remy used to bum tuck right around the field every time it was windy - must be a good 600m bum tuck!

Gypsy is loopy this afternoon, charging about and woofing at nothing! - I will put it down to the wind!

I find she calms down if I put her lead on - so she's at my feet on the lead now, right as rain.

    Little monkey!

    :)

Just been out with Murphy for a training session in a quiet area of wood land near Leith Hill, haven`t been there for a while as I like to vary my training venues. Murphy was a little b***ger  Recall was very lax, he ambled back instead of the normal rocket return!, he played run around with the dummy! (altho` he did EVENTUALLY bring it back), the walk off lead to heel was abysmal with me having to constantly correct him!, he (I) could only manage a 40 sec sit/stay and even when I released him he wandered off instead of coming back to me!   I really feel like starting a bottle of red and finishing with a whisky!!

Oh where do I start ! Actualy Otis is pretty good now he is older, but we have our moments. I cleaned out the kitchen drain today of mucky sludge, greasy horrid stuff, that Otis decided he liked the taste of, had to drag him away from this delicacy ! Yeuuuuch ! Have recently bought an expensive , but dog proof bin from John Lewis, so now don't have rubbish strewn around . Also his chewing is much better. We are working on the poo eating as explained in another thread. Having said all this, I've got to admit, Otis is the love of my life !! x

Not much better later on either...thought I would take them out for a quick blast before it got dark. Dog walker had already taken them out during the day.

Casper disappears, well my attention was on Benson, who was surprising me with some terrific retrieves...looking back I think it was more of a distraction so Casper could leg it without me noticing.

Found him helping an elderly couple who were digging in their allotment...

After that I put them both on leads and took them rather sharply around the field, they both looked like naughty schoolboys, but meekly walked neatly to heel :)

Oh lordy, partners in crime already.

"ok, Benson, do that stuff with the dummy she likes so much, and I'll see what I can scrounge in the way of food...it'll just be veg, but I'm starving."

Glad to see they are becoming partners in crime. My two have a "naughty glance" which they share immediately before doing something outrageous. You can see them egg each other on with a "come on, lets do this, you know you want to" attitude.

:) I can understand two dogs in cahoots but Lemmy and Pushka the cat have now teemed up I'm sure. Sometimes at night she will start to get all slinky and friendly she waits then goes sits next to Lemmy happliy munching his evening treat in front of fire. Last night this was a tripe stick. He decides to show pushka how yummy the stick was by throwing it at her she batted few times then he threw it but it went under sofa but I couldn't reach it decided , rather than moving stuff etc till morning would get another, so went to kitchen followed by Lemmy with cat watching like a dubious bond villain who has sent her dopey henchman on mission.
Of course when Lemmy trots in with new stick Pushka has retrieved the other one and is sat in my chair purring! (My son thinks she was smiling) the worst of it is Lemmy the clown went over with new stick all pleased to show her ,put it down and picked up the half eaten one! Why can,t I train him like the cat can maybe she has shown him her secret lair and told him of plan to take over the world I just don't know!
