My 6 month old yellow lab has one baby tooth that turned brown & did not fall out, the adult tooth grew out behind it with the little brown baby tooth in front of it. Is this common? Should I call the vet? It doesn't seem to bother him & I'm on a budget. Anyone else have this happen? Any advice?

Hello there, and a very warm welcome to the forum. We'd love to hear more about you and your dog, so do pop over to introductions and tell us a bit more about yourself and your lovely pup.

Yes, you need to take your dog to a vet. Puppy tooth or not, there is no way a brown, discoloured tooth should be left in your dog's mouth. Best of luck with it.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Yes, you will need to see the vet about this and your puppy will need to have that tooth removed. This is called a 'retained deciduous tooth'. If the tooth is not removed it may push the adult tooth to the side and affect your dog's bite (eg leading to teeth pushing on the opposite gum). As the tooth has become brown that probably means it is dead and that means there's a risk of infection, which then becomes a complicated, painful and serious problem.

I know you're on a budget, but it's important not to wait. Please get it looked at.

My dog had the same thing as a puppy with one of his canine teeth and the vet removed it.
