Not a dog thought at all... but just wanted to say that we have had a FAB evening in Regensburg with @Emily_BabbelHund ! Thank you so much Emily and we really really look forward to seeing you in GB (and introducing you to the legend that is Pongo )
My sort of dog walking etiquette is if the dog is off lead, I don't put Stanley on his lead. If the dog is on lead, I pop Stanley on his. Tonight we were on our walk when we saw 2 labradors up ahead both off lead. As we got closer Stanley went ahead and was obviously going to do a meet and greet. To which they grab one of their dogs and shout SHE'S IN HEAT! By this point Stanley is quite far ahead so I have to other option really except to try and run and grab him while shouting HE'S GOT NO BALLS! What a lovely introduction the joys of dog walking
Thank you so back so much! It was so lovely to meet you and can't wait to meet the Esteemed and Very Famous Pongo.
My friend has gone to put a deposit down on a Great Dane puppy. I don't think I've ever been so jealous They're my ultimate dream dog but OH is a big fat NO!
I nearly got smacked in the face by a sparrow hawk today. It flew out of a hedge and at my head it uttered a mad swear word glared at me and flew off. So funny I'm definately getting sneakier though. Very quiet now me and Rory both.
Shhhhhhh! Don't say that in front of Stanley! My neighbours in California had a full harlequin GD and a GD/Lab mix who was also ginormous. My first Rottie Duncan, who was no slouch at 28" at the withers, could walk underneath both of them just by ducking his head. He liked the neighbour dogs, but they freaked Brogan out. Mainly because Brogan grew up thinking he was a toy poodle so big dawgs were scary! On another note, my chi houseguest Fine went back to her mama this evening and I pick up Tibi tomorrow at 9:30. The peace was nice while it lasted.
Quinn is so scared of GD's...literally sees one in the distance and moves as far away as possible and tucks her tail. Last week, two massive ones walked by her and one tried to take a sniff...she was NOT happy! I don't know why, because as a puppy she played well with GD's!
I have been under the weather a bit over the last few days. Vanilla has not seen me be ill so it caused some panic stations on Saturday and Sunday as all she did was whine and tried to get me to engage as I was laying in bed. Monday I spent all day in bed and she was as good as gold laying with me. Today she has had a quick walk this morning, and now asleep by my feet as I am resting. Hopefully the world will be back to normal by tomorrow. Well Vanilla's world anyway.
HHope you are feeling better soon. Just rest mine are good at picking up on the sickness stuff. They are used to it and really good. They don't bother me just stay close and are calm.
Thanks am feeling better. She has picked up up, but it took her a day or so to realise that not everything was normal. She has been as sweet as anything last few days.
It hasn't been a very good summer for us. First it was extreme flooding and now it's been no rain for 6 weeks and scorching high temperatures which has led to all our hiking areas being closed due to extreme forest fire hazards. Plus we have a lot of massive fires blazing in our province which has made for very smokey skies and health advisories to not be outside unless you need to be. So poor Axel has been very deprived of off leash running, it's been weeks! But we got out and had a nice walk before it got too hot and there was no smoke which was really great. He has only been getting one walk a week max depending on how smokey it is thankfully it seems every week we get at least one day of clear skies. I am so ready for winter!!!
So I've turned myself into a bit of a doggy day care (yey!). Obviously I regularly look after Basil, the little border terrier, and I'll be getting Judge the Great Dane (actually can't wait!). But this weekend we're getting Nitchka, a 16 week whippet. I've had zero experience of whippets so I'm excited to see how she gets on. She's very cute if nothing else and from what my friend says she's a dream puppy!
Sometimes me and Stanley go out for a little walk and are just plodding along taking in the world.. And he turns and gives me the biggest smile ever. (I know its probably not really a smile). In those moments I know there's nowhere either of us would rather be and it's the best feeling ever
Quinn is a very nice girl, and has never told off a dog for anything. She's not ball/toy/food possessive in the least...this morning a dog we see often who is also ball crazy came without his own ball and tried to get Quinn's and snapped/growled at her...she raised her hackles at and growled and snapped right back! I was shocked...not sure if I should be happy she is getting more confident or worried she could creep into possessive territory with her ball...
Yep I just love the big sloppy relaxed expression. Maybe its not a smile but it sure looks and feels like one
Those are the best moments on a walk or for that matter anywhere. I always tune out to the rest of the world for that moment and I think Vanilla does too...well so I believe
