I have a type of blood cancer The treatment for that has caused me to develop an auto immune problem which stops My breathing at night which means I'm on cpap. Unfortunately i developed an infection in my chest which gave me pleurisy and a jaw and face infection. Because of this i had to stop my chemo which means my cancer is trying to make hay. bone pain is back now. i can't lie flat because of pleurisy and the inability to breath so I've been sleeping sitting up for nearly 6 weeks. Hopefully if the infection clears i can restart my treatment in 2 weeks. Then if I can get to bed I'll get some O2 sleep and I be realived. I would love a snughly nights sleep. Im fine working doing all my normal stuff though.not miserable just tired. It will be all fine again in a few weeks but the not sleeping is driving me crazy . I am amazed how much sleep you can manage on
@SwampDonkey sending you big hugs Why is it that I don't mind picking up poo from my dog, but when someone has been inconsiderate enough not to pick up after their own dog and I've stepped in it. I find I am at home wretching, eyes watering and looking like death trying to clean it off my wellies. Mabel just looked at me with the saddest face.
@SwampDonkey, I am so sorry to read this! Hopefully the infection will soon be gone so that you can start your treatment again and lots of sleep with it!
I am getting so sick of Melbourne being completely dog unfriendly I spent a good couple of hours searching for somewhere to take Ella for a nice new walk. Nearly all of the good walking places are national park so no dogs allowed. I finally found a huge reservoir park that claimed it was dog friendly. When we got there we found that dogs had to be on lead (this was not a surprise as we very rarely find places they can go off lead) and that only one of the many walking tracks was open to Dogs. The worst part was that dogs were banned from the concrete path on the reservoir wall so you couldn't even complete a loop of the reservoir so, once you reached the wall at the end of the one and only dog friendly track, you had to turn around an walk back on the same track. For goodness sake! My dog is not going to ruin your precious concrete path
Many sympathies, it must be tough. I find it strange such a big country has so few off lead spaces for dogs, but I understand it's because the native wildlife/environment is fragile and precious (which is wonderful, but a bummer not being allowed to have your dog off lead). Ridiculous about the concrete path. Can you write a polite letter suggesting they change this? I've been a purple ink letter writer all my life. Often it achieves nothing, but sometimes it works.
Honestly, the amount of ridiculous "no dogs allowed" places I come across, I wouldn't know where to start!
I have friends (with a dog) in Melbourne and I see photos of her off leash all the time. Either they're flouting the rules, or they've found super secret off-leash areas for her. I'm sure you've done this already, but have you spoken to people at your obedience club? Owners must find a workaround somehow?
There are heaps of off lead places (our local council advertises 17 off lead parks) but it's just footy ovals or grass areas where there is a sign where you walk up that says "entering off lead area" and that's about it. It's not somewhere we can go for a walk, just got to and chuck a ball. I have couple new by that I use for training, offload around distractions. We also occasionally let Ella chase a ball and have a zoomie I do see a few people with dogs off lead when they go for walks but, if you're going to be a rule breaker, you've got to be 100% certain about your dog's recall. I'm not haha
Not only in Australia are problems with off lead area's! Here in Holland it is an issue too! We let Finn off lead in an area he is not allowed to go off lead. Many people with dogs will go there too and let them play, run etc. we are risking a fine, but most of the time you get a warning... Most off lead places are diminishing. Due to people who hate dogs and are in local councils. We have a group dog owners now who talks to the council to get more space for our dogs
This is a serious worry about dogs not being allowed off lead, it could be happening here. Dogs need freedom to be off lead and to run. I am so fortunate I have two commons, a wood and plantation, plus footpaths and I used to go up the hills, miles of freedom.
