Saw a pup yestetday with docked tail and cropped ears. Horrible. Its illegal in the UK so the bad boys are now importing their cane corso from Spain so they can look superhard . They walk amoung us but live in a different universe.

Oh Stanley, you make a smashing looking cushion.

Ugh, I've never seen a dog with cropped ears in the fur, so to speak. They shouldn't even be allowed to be imported if they have cropped ears.

I really don't understand some dog owners. I'm walking Xena this arvo on one of our regular circuits. A yellow Lab appears (I've never seen him before). Crosses the road. Follows us. So I cross the road and go and knock on what I hope is the owner's door. "Oh yes, it's my dog, he usually roams about". I know what I wanted to say, but honestly, what's the point? If you don't see the problem with letting your dog roam (cars, for starters) then I'm not going to point it out. "Righto", I say, "just thought I'd check". And off we went. I heard him call his dog back, though.

Nathan: I don't know why Stanley begs, I don't like it though.

I this it's awful and I wish it were illegal everywhere, but I don't think outlawing the import of dogs with cropped ears is the best answer. There's a beautiful pit with cropped ears at the shelter - I'm still in two minds about the ethics of exporting dogs to the UK for rescue, but while it is allowed, I do think that she deserves to have the same chance as any other dog to find a home. It would be sacrificing her potential happiness just because some **** hacked her ears off, which seems so unfair.

I locked myself out of the house this lunchtime. J wasn't home for another three to four hours. I had no phone with me to contact the lady who has a spare key, and no idea of her number even if I found someone else with a phone. Luckily, I had just popped out for a quick pee break with the dogs so at least had them with me and figured I'd take them on a long walk instead. We walked to sister Annie's house - I know I can break in there (hehe, I'm not married to a Scouser for no reason) and so I could at least make myself a cuppa. The problem was that it's snowed about a metre in the last day and a bit and I didn't have my snowshoes with me. Wading for ninety minutes through knee-to-thigh deep powder is HARD WORK, even with three Labradors pathfinding for me. Stayed there about forty-five minutes, did some cleaning for them - I figure I'd be happy for someone to break in if it meant I came back to the washing up being done - and then waded my way home. Got home at just gone 5pm, starving as I'd not eaten all day. The dogs are snoring their heads off and I think I might join them soon :D

This isn't really dog related apart from the fact I'm 150 miles from him and am having my first night away from him in 18 months:(
I'm at a wedding with my parents who are the only people I know. OH is working back at home. I'm in the youngest 5%of the room and I'm nearly 40. o_O Wish I was at home with my doggie.

No. It's an overnighter in Southampton. I've got nearly 24 hours till I'm home. Now I'm hiding in the toilets. Think I can get at least 10 mins more out of this cubicle.

Rory is strange he finds strange things and prances round with his special trophy. Over years he has galloped round the park shoes socks pants gaint plastic egg Pilates ball and various balls. Today he found a hot water bottle a green rubber one he galloped about with it showing off throwing it into the air and catching it. Everyone had to have a look but they weren't allowed to touch. One woman asked me why he had a hot water bottle so i told it was a very cold day;) he is a very silly Labrador :D

Just decide that you are going to talk non-stop about your dog to anyone who will listen to you. You won't run out of things to say. You'll get a reputation as mad dog lady, but who cares (and it will get you through the evening). Works for me.

Its been a crappy week. I'm just starting to improve hopefully I've been sitting a thinking a lot. Some of the things Rory is doing now are really suprising me. Stuff I have not really trained for hard is surfacing and he's suddenly changed into the dog I imagined he would. I dont know how this happened I know he'd been really good for a while but I actually think ive been doing him a disservice and not waking up to the fact that he seems to have hit his age of reason. I had my epiphany today when a squirrel ran on to the path and looked at us and I just murmured quietly ner mate leave it and he gathered him self to chase it but just released the thought and energy and turned back to me. I thought sh*t that was amazing then though that was Rory. I never let my dogs dogs chase anything but Rory prey drive is ridiculous. So happy with him today.
