Hi Hugo is 15 weeks old and only ever been fed a raw diet (nutriment as provided by breeder) this week we have started getting pet mince from the local farm shop through a recommendation - does anyone else feed this way?
I fed my previous Weimaraner and Collie x springer raw for several years. I used to buy in bulk from Landywoods but you do need a huge freezer to keep it all in. I would still be feeding it today if it wasn't for a very fussy Pointer who screws his nose up at anything raw, to the point of actually retching! He's a most peculiar dog!
Hi there, if you are going to feed meat (as in muscle meat) it is important to balance it with sufficient bone and to include lots of variety. I've written a couple of articles on raw feeding that might help you. This one for puppies and this is the one on the main site There are some others here who feed raw, and some who feed mixed so you should be able to get plenty of support
Harley is fed on Natures Menu which is raw meat and bone crushed together. She also gets a meaty bone once or twice a week along with veggies and fruit as snacks. We have seen a difference in her coat and general health.
Freddie is 12 weeks old and was weaned onto Wainwrights by his breeder. I was concerned about the massive amount of poo (5 or 6 a day ) the wind (very smelly and he lives in the house) and he bolted his food very quickly. I used Pippas website to get enough information to make the change. He's just on his 3rd day but we're both very happy. It helps that we're beef and sheep farmers so have a freezer with lots of meaty bones, our own chickens and a free rabbit supply. My favourite thing is that it takes him much longer to eat his food. His lunchtime chicken carcase lasted 20 minutes 10kg from our butcher = 22 carcasses £7.50!) I'm a complete beginner but already Freddie has solid poo not runny, 1 or 2 a day and no more wind.
