Re: Rawhide chews The hedgehog thingies are vegetarian. Chepi had one over Christmas and enjoyed the chew and ate it all. I was going to buy some but thought I would see if there was any feedback here. Apparently they have no artificial preservatives.
Re: Rawhide chews Jane, Maisie love the hedgehog thingies, but she devours them in minutes, even when they have been in the freezer!
Re: Rawhide chews You can stuff the hedgehog before freezing just like kongs. Extends their life a little longer
Re: Rawhide chews
I think rawhide can upset tums, no matter what the quality - if your dog just eats it (as Charlie does) I think it's wise not to give too much. Charlie is ok with rawhide from a firm called Armitage pet care, and sold under the brand "good boy". He gets just one of these a day: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Goodboy-Cigars-Dog-Chew-1250/dp/B003XW2YHY
Julie, I ordered these, Maisie loves them, kept her quiet for ages (when she wasn't barking at it!!) and no adverse effect! Thank you!
Re: Rawhide chews Oh good. His single rawhide chew a day is a high point for Charlie (apart from walks and dinner of course : ).
Re: Rawhide chews Mine each had half a fresh (frozen) pig ear at lunchtime today. Lasted them about thirty minutes and they absolutely loved them. You butcher may be able to give you some for free - I can't imagine they would be a product that was worth a lot in the UK? They cost money here, albeit they're very cheap, because people use them in cooking all the time

Re: Rawhide chews I have never tried buying a fresh pig's ear....waitrose express by the tube on my way home don't stock them (I checked....). I gave Charlie a dried pig's ear once. It was very greasy and gave him explosive runny poo! He gets dried venison ears, which are fine but last him about a microsecond...
Re: Rawhide chews Dried pigs ears are indeed fatty. But a big favourite here as the occasional treat (and no poo problems).
Actually, the traditional Andorran stew/soup Escudella isn't a proper Escudella unless it has a pig's ear in!!

Re: Rawhide chews
Under what category? Sport and Leisure? Science and Nature?

Bound to come up as a trivial pursuit question...one day.
Sport and Leisure I would say.
Re: Rawhide chews Heh. The things you learn on a labrador forum. You never guessed when you signed up, did you?
Re: Rawhide chews Bella's loving a rawhide chew, she doesn't demolish it either, gets bored when it's soggy!! Keeps her quiet for a while too ;D
