Today was a good training day with Charlie. Took him for a walk and he was hungry, he was a little flighty on the lead to start with but it is very windy here and that always has an effect on him. He calmed down nicely and when I said "heel" he looked at me and dropped back, received some breakfast each time, and so we went on which was great. Got to the paddock, he did a sit/wait whilst we were in the middle, a lady walked through and he continued to look at me and didn't budge even when she walked right past him, he got more breakfast and his ball. 10 minutes later the lady came back through and we did the same, he did move but quickly came back into position when I told him to Lots of retrieving of his ball which is unusual for Charlie and he even delivered it into my hand 3 times Some off lead heel work was good also and he followed me around watching where I was going. Went to the river in the next paddock, threw the ball in and in he leapt retrieved his ball and we did this three times. He then thought he would go for a little explore up the bank to the hedge row, 2 verbal recalls and he bombed back to me for more breakfast and back on lead. He walked home holding his tennis ball which I have been teaching him 'hold'. So all in all a good session Helen x
Re: Really Good Training Session today i think that probably qualifies as more than good sounds brilliant to me !!!
Re: Really Good Training Session today Thats great Helen , big pats on back all round, well done indeed ;D
Re: Really Good Training Session today Thank you so much, there seems to be a marked improvement all round with Charlie, his verbal recall is much sharper now that he is been hand fed his meals, he turns really quickly even when he looks like he has seen something else and comes straight back most of the time This was a really great idea of Heidruns to always take him out hungry and feed his daily rations for good work and it's strenghtened our bond even more . Also another great idea of Heidruns was to use the clicker to improve his recall which is going great indoors. A great step forward is his new found interest in retrieving his tennis balls which is a blessing as maybe just maybe I can move onto a dummy in time. He has for while been really enjoying searching for tennis balls and even better now in the newly cut paddock, I tell him "find the ball" and his nose is down in full search mode until he finds it, I tell him "bring the ball" and he comes back to me with it Seems he will do anything for food now, long may it continue Helen xx
