Morning all, here is my dense question of the day. Can I use my whistle recall whilst Charlie is heading back to me with the rabbit ball? Sorry if that's a silly question : Thanks H x
Re: Recall with a Ball? Helen, I almost always reinforce the return from a retrieve with the whistle command. It has become such a habit that I have to make a conscious effort not to do it in a working test situation, not all the judges like to hear a lot of whistle commands. But in everyday training I do it all the time regardless of what the dog is retrieving.

Not dense Helen.......I did it last night after watching Heidrun's video.....it's made me realise that commands are adaptable to different situations.....Dex will sit to the long peep stop whistle command so I was doing that too when we stopped at kerbs this morning( 5.30 am ) I wasn't doing it loud!have a good day training !we are being lazy today,I'm full,of cold,lost my voice and we have obedience class tonight.....I'm under pressure to get a 'Sophie Standard' Play Dead for my god son when he comes in October so when Dexter can bear to open his eyes we might just practice that ;D Bye for now x

Brilliant another thing we are getting right Also we will start the stop whistle during obedience training and not just specifically for stop whistle, so for long sit/stay at a distance and at kerb sides is an excellent idea Angela. Re: Recall with a Ball? oh phew. something I had been meaning to ask too, thanks helen! I sometimes do this with Brodick in the park when he is coming back to me with his (favourite ridiculous latex with smiley face on it) ball. Also sometimes he will run out to get his ball, turn, and stop like he is waiting for the recall whistle. I have turned it into a training game where when he stops I put home on a Wait from a distance, walk away a bit, then call him and whistle as he comes in. he thinks its great fun! hoping to build in Stop Whistle training around this too....Ihave to say some of the other folk in the park think I'm dead weird with my whistle....given up caring!

Charlie learned his recall signals running towards us with the ball - now he is being funny returning the dummy (although he was ok this morning when I tried to start clicker training of course - he is like an intermittent electrical fault, call in the clicker and the problem goes away!) trying to call him in is messing with my recall, I think. So I've stopped for now.
