I noticed the whites of Coopers eyes are not white but a little on the red side...normal? Also once or twice a day he will just pant for no obvious reason and it goes on for quite some time before he can settle down..?

    Hi Diane,
Has there been a change in his eyes ,is that why you have noticed this? Is he rubbing them ?any discharge?
There are eye ailments that crop up,conjunctivitis ,eye infections etc...
My dog had a few episodes of redness when he was young as his 3 rd eye lid was getting irritated, this is quite common as they are growing, they need to grow into the skin of their faces.A steroid eye drop from the vet cleared it up and I used a product called Tears Au Naturelle ( a saline eye drop from the chemist) on the vets advice as a lubricant on days I thought he might be feeling slightly irritated .
As for the panting,I can't really help .....if his eyes are bothering him it might be as well to go and get him checked over by the vet and you can describe the panting and the context to the vet
    Best wishes
    Angela

I agree with Angela. Best to see the vet. Quite a few things can cause redness of the whites - airborne allergies would be one possibility. The conjunctiva (pink moist bits in the eye) can also become physically irritated with things like pollen or dust/grit/sand, even if there is no actual allergy.

We use a combo of antihistamines, steroid tablets and eye drops (just human ones from the pharmacy) for our boy who has pollen allergies. It gives him red eyes - for him that means it's definitely steroid time.
