Some of you might remember my meeting up for walks with Vincent and his 6 month old puppy Ted the Welsh Fox Terrier. Vincent uses a metal whistle from the pet shop so it sounds completely different to my whistle, but the problem is he repeats his whistle 3 or 4 times if Ted is busy down a rabbit hole like Terriers like to do so not listening and setting Ted upto fail. Will Hattie get confused with the repeat whistling as obviously I really don't want that or will she be able to distinguish the sounds? She returned a couple of times but that could have been a coincidence. I don't feel I can advise on the correct method of using a recall whistle as everyone is a 'dog trainer' : x
Re: Repeat Whistling :/ She'll soon learn to ignore Vincent's whistling, Helen. At training it often amazes me how Poppy can distinguish my whistle from the others, since we all have the same kind!
Re: Repeat Whistling :/ Agreed, she will ignore it soon enough. My two know the difference between me and my OH using the same whistle, must sound very different to them in terms of length of peep, loudness, etc.
Re: Repeat Whistling :/ I've always wondered how dogs on a shoot distinguish their owners whistle from others if every bodies using a 211.5 acme ? ??? Although if Vincent's whistle is a different sound to yours I'm sure Hattie will be able to tell the difference.
