Rory is a unneutered just over 2 year old male lab. He was calming down nicely and starting to relax and understand what was wanted from him. He's just got very stressed due to my old dogs death about 2 weeks ago but I have also noticed he's just a bit selectively deaf and not really paying attention to me. I'm being calm and just going back to basics but am just wondering if it is part of his greaving process or something more. I never had an entire dog before so just wondering..? He has got a bit clingy but I expected that its just this extra just dashing about seems different

I truly don't think that being entire is playing any part , I think he is grieving for his old pal . Having been in this situation , I know that dogs do react when the dynamics have changed in the household . Try to keep to his routine as much as possible , gentle training will definitely help to give him a focus, but this stage will pass to a stage of acceptance , just as it does with us as grieving owners x

He is missing the older dog, we do not give them enough credit for greiving But they do.
We found that when we lost Kes that Bella was wandering around the house and garden looking for her and going to the front door every time it was opened.
I am sure with the more attention he will come around.

Poor boy. I wonder if he is grieving. Did he get to say goodbye to Douglas? I find/think it helps if they do. And maybe missing Douglas is coming right at a hard time maturity wise. From my readings I swear the teenage time is worst at about 9 months but Oban didn't hit his teen phase till 18 months and it lasted till 24 months. Maybe Rory is the same?

I made sure they all got to say goodbye he didn't just leave the house and the looking for him element we had when we lost big bad Colin hasn't happened. I'll keep on with what i 'm doing thanks for the support, just need some other ideas sometimes. X

I expect the dynamics in the house are different. I know Douglas was old, but he may have been a stabilizing influence for Rory. He's probably finding his feet with the new situation. Give it time, it'll sort itself out, just continue with your calm back-to-basics training.

Yep it was his colitis its flared up again due to the stressful changes in the house. He's been to the vets and he is getting back to himself and that edge must have been his tummy starting to rebel. hes much more like his normal self now.

he's being brave but we are getting a bit of over excitment and silliness. I'm sure it will pass just got to give him time and some extra care. I've booked some time off work and will spend some time just doing house and dog stuff it should help

scared the pant off me this weekend by chasing a jogger. he's not done this since a pup. He moved so fast and I couldn't see the jogger because of the low morning sun(I don't see too well in sunlight). Also the jogger was moving quickly towards me which is never good as I just cant respond quickly enough. So I apologised clipped him on his lead and we had a bit of a talk and now he's going on his lead even if the joggers miles away and starting to train hard on paying no attention to silly joggers. He is defiately feeling a little stressed I think this shows it perfectly
