Loki is an unusually tall lab and a very fit 100#. He has a medium coat and loose skin. Twice I've left his collar on him and both times his chin and neck have become edematous and weepy. Is this a thing or just a coincidence?

    Hi and welcome Kimberley. :)

I think we would need a bit more information here. Just leaving his collar on for a few hours longer than normal shouldn't result in skin issues, certainly not to the extend you have described. Poor lad!

First things first. Leave the collar off. Take him the vet for a good look at his skin, he may need some topical treatment or even antibiotics to sort this out.

Out of interest, how old is Loki, and what sort of collar do you use? Are you sure it's the collar causing the problem?

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Loki is 4. Flat nylon collar left on about a week both times. Still have meds from last time about 6months ago...Typical ABX. Clearing up. Just curious if saggy necks need special care

Our dogs almost always have their collars on, and we have never had a problem caused by the collar.

Still need more information please. How tight is the collar? How many fingers can you get under the flat collar? Does the material from the buckle come into contact with the dog's skin? You had a bout of this problem before? What was the vet's diagnosis?
