Sam has always been a typically greedy Labrador and would, if I let him, eat anything . However, he has never stolen food, until today and in such a blatant manner too I made a sandwich at lunchtime , a very indulgent one of prawns and salad . As I was about to eat it, the phone rang , it was the important call I had been expecting so, knowing I was in for a fairly long conversation , I put my plate on the coffee table I could do nothing , nothing but watch whilst trying to concentrate , as my big lumpador casually ate my sandwich, right in front of my eyes
Oh, Sam! What a lovely, tasty treat your mum made for you!!! You must have been a VERY good boy to deserve that!!! A similar thing happened around New Year with us. J had had a particularly crappy day, so I made him a super special sandwich with the last of the turkey, some homemade orange and cranberry gravy and chestnut stuffing, between two huge slices of crusty rustic bread. Delicious. As he was about to tuck in, Willow asked to go out, so he put it down on the arm of the sofa while he opened the door, which is only about 18 inches from the sofa, so, it wasn't as if he wandered off. The next thing, we heard a funny noise, and looked round to see Shadow with his chops around the sandwich, desperately trying to swallow it down in one! Needless to say, all training went out the window at that point, J shrieked and grabbed it straight from his jaws. I buttered two more slices of bread and transferred the filling, which was largely untouched.
Well done, Sam! I put some bread in the toaster, briefly went out of the kitchen and returned to find no sign of any toast. The toast had popped up and two waiting labs had got there first. At least they didn't have the butter and marmalade!
Go Sam! Lochan is impressed and says public food snaffling in front of people is so much more satisfying....
