Yesterday while out with Annie, a very tall and large man scared her. He didn't mean too. He bend down to her and in a loud voice (more like a shout), who's a pretty dog and tried to touch her head. She was on the lead, because we were by a busy road, but she shot behind me and wouldn't come out. He just laughed and walked off. She is always very good with men and loves the attention. Now I do I take her back to the same place today or just leave it? I don't know if it was because he was so big or that he shouted that scared her. What do you think?
I think if she was mine I'd go back there today and it all just be normal. Are you likely to meet that man again? Of course I'm no expert
I wouldn't worry about it too much, just build up a few good associations with nice men who don't shout and try to pat an unknown dog! What a twit!!
Thanks ladies. He was a huge man well over 6' 4" and he had an east european accent which he shouted with. I don't think I will meet him again (hopefully). Annie likes men and is a little flirt usually. She loves all the workmen who visit our home. I will try and take her again today. Fingers crossed.
As a one off, I probably wouldn't worry too much. We're all entitled to feel a little uncomfortable at times. I'd probably continue as normal and only put more thought in if it started to become a regular occurrence
Hoping Annie wont react again, I doubt it ! Ironic that Sam barked at a man this morning , but then I don't blame him for barking , he was wearing Halloween outfit and looking worse for wear !
I hope your walk went ok today, particularly if you did the same route . I wouldn't worry about Annie reacting to this man as it is more than likely a one off - very tall man, loud shouty voice and trying to touch her head. I would actually be rather pleased that when unhappy in a situation she went to you for protection and comfort and in a situation like that I wouldn't even try to coax her out.
All went well and we didn't meet any men so maybe all will be ok. Today we are going to see another man who she likes, at the old people home at the top of our lane. He is the cook, so she gets doggie treats when they meet I will try again at the other place next week and see how she is. We have to drive there, it is by our vets. I take her there because there are lots of people and traffic, which we don't have where we live. Thanks again.
