It's always something, isn't it? Poor little Pops was looking a bit droopy yesterday evening, and kept rubbing her face against my leg. This morning her eye was squeezed shut and a bit weepy. After Kate's horrid experience with Millie, we went STRAIGHT to the vet... The little love has scratched her cornea, doubtless while retrieving. Not too bad, but some bacteria have got into the scratch, which has caused the weeping. So, two lots of cream to be applied three times a day. She is allowed to run around, but nothing is allowed to get in the eye - so no water retrieves, no running through long grass, no hedges or similar... : I have cancelled our training class for tomorrow, but guess what? We are supposed to be taking part in a working test on Saturday! The vet thinks it should be ok, but I'll take her back on Friday for a check-up and see if it's ok to have her take part or not.
Re: Scratched cornea Oh Ouch! Poor Pops - hope it clears up quickly. Few days away until Sunday, so hope it's all cleared up and she can have some fun.
Re: Scratched cornea Oh no , poor love , Millie sends sympathy , please please keep watch Karen , I know you will but am now paranoid about eyes, hope she is better soon xxx
Re: Scratched cornea Oh I hope she is getting better quickly, Karen. Like Kate I am totally paranoid about anything wrong with eyes. Alice's scratched cornea turned into a melting ulcer in a flash. :'( If something like that ever happened again I would stick a cone on to prevent the dog rubbing its eye and making things worse. You did absolutely the right thing by taking Poppy to the vets instantly.
Re: Scratched cornea poor pops i am so sorry, it will be very painful i have had it happen to me , oh i feel for her

Re: Scratched cornea Oh poor Poppy, I feel for her :'( Please get better quickly Poppy there's work to be done on Saturday. Big hugs xxxxx
Re: Scratched cornea Glad you acted so fast Karen and that you've got good meds for her, hope she gets over it soon Best wishes X
Re: Scratched cornea Poor Poppy. I hope it heals quickly and in time for Saturday. We are lucky with the forum we learn so much from other peoples experiences. If it wasn't for Kate and Millie I wouldn't know how bad something wrong with a dogs eye could be.

Keep is posted, we'll all be worried until she gets a clean bill of health from the vet!
Re: Scratched cornea Thank you everyone and I am going to be super-vigilant. Luckily the vet didn't think it was a deep scratch, but I was concerned to hear that bacteria had already got into it. The working test on Saturday doesn't matter a bit - I just want her to get better quickly, that's all that matters.
Re: Scratched cornea Ah Poppy, get better soon sweetheart. You're just going to have to rest for a little while but that means you can put your feet up and have mum wait on you.
Re: Scratched cornea After terrifying myself this afternoon by reading up on melting ulcers on the Internet (DONT!!!) I am happy to report that Pops seems more comfortable this evening, and has her eye pretty much open. We have two eye ointments for her, one is an antibiotic, and one is called Corneregel, which is to help the cornea heal... Spoke to the vet again, she says it is a small scratch and that as long as we keep her out of water, long grass, etc and apply the ointments alternately three times per ointment per day, we should be ok. Again, I have to say thank goodness for this forum. I would have taken her in anyway with a sore eye, but might have been tempted to wait until after work later in the day...
