Re: Scratched cornea Glad to hear Poppy more comfortable. The treatment is working for her. They do give us so much worry bless them, but, hey, they're our lovely furries and we would do anything for them. Keep getting better Poppy.
Re: Scratched cornea So pleased to read this Karen , when we left Millie at the hospital for her emergency op , I was daft enough to google melting ulcer , I needed several large glasses of wine after reading : : Good to hear that your Vet isn't overly concerned xx
Re: Scratched cornea Her eye was looking good this morning, but I think it must still be a little sore as she is quite careful not to go charging around, even when off the lead. She is very good about having the ointment put in; the treat afterwards seems to make it worthwhile for her! :
Re: Scratched cornea OH has been given specific instructions regarding NO running after tennis balls, etc during the day. He's got to give her the medication at lunchtime; only watched me do it before but hopefully he'll be ok - he was a bit nervous about it!
Re: Scratched cornea Eye continues to improve, and Poppy is now bored to bits about not being allowed to rush around and retrieve stuff : Always a sign of improvement, don't you think?
Re: Scratched cornea Quick update - we were back at the vets this morning for a check-up, and things are looking good. Vet says the infection is under control, but that we should continue with the antibiotic cream until after the weekend just to be sure. The little scratch is healing nicely, but she thinks it will take 2-3 weeks until it is completely gone, so we should continue with the other cream Corneregel until it is all used up. She says this is a normal amount of time for a scratch to heal, and we should come back in a week for another check-up. She says that we are fine to take part in the working test tomorrow, but that Poppy shouldn't go in water. So I am trying to find out whether there are any water retrieves (I am pretty sure not, but am just waiting for confirmation). Vet thinks Pops will have very slightly less than perfect vision out of her right eye due to the scratch, but does not think this will affect her, and says as long as I am happy, then she is happy for Poppy to take part. So - looks like Thunderbirds Are Go!! ;D I am really hugely pleased that things have gone so well, but also quite shocked to find out how quickly these things can go wrong. The scratch is TINY; about the size of a pin head!!! And yet before we were really aware of it, overnight bacteria had entered it and had started an infection. Lesson is: ANY THING WRONG WITH AN EYE - GO STRAIGHT TO THE VET, don't delay thinking it might get better on its own. There's a chance things might go badly, badly wrong.
