I entered Lady in a fun scurry competition at the Edenbridge & Oxted Show this morning. She's never done anything like that before. Well if I said she had NO clue what she was doing it would be an understatement. What a hoot! The crowd, the noises and the strange location threw her completely. Bless! At least she stopped and obeyed the back command, but I had to retire her in the end. Never mind. I'll give it another go next year, but we'll give her some practice on the actual gundog trial ground before hand.

Oh poor Lady! Some of the scurries are difficult and and quite complex. Next year she will be ace! ;D

I've never seen any complex scurries - must get to some shows and game fairs...

Nevermind Lady, most dogs couldn't even think of entering (including mine!) so way ahead of most.

Well I thought it was worth a try and not too bothered about looking inept. ;D

One of the handlers asked if she would retrieve tennis balls. I said yes and pheasants! ROFL! Another handler said it was the noise and the crowd that threw her - which was kind. :D

Honestly, you might look inept when you try something very challenging.

Me? Twice a day on my walks with Charlie!

    ;D ;D ;D

Talking of which, off to see if I can get her off her bed and out for an afternoon walk. Might get some resistance!

This is a more complex one. I've tried it myself at the Midlands Game Fair with Caddie. She is a handling machine and it was still difficult. :)

Oh wow - that looks terrific fun! Gosh, I'd love to have a try at something like that.

Sigh....not much chance, I fear. Well, nevermind, maybe something a bit easier one day though. I hope there is a fair selection between the very basic over the straw bales lane (even Charlie can do that as he can't run round with the dummy ;D ;D ;D) and pot black?

The bigger game fairs like the midland or the West Country game fair have scurries for every level, from very basic to very advanced.

I'll certainly give it another go. Lady was not the only confused dog. Half the idea is to entertain the crowd so I think we managed that. ;D

Poor Lady! Even Mr Halstead struggled with his dogs in an arena with shots and dummies going off all over the place plus his voice coming out of about 6 different speakers!!! Lady will work up to her public no doubt! ;D

Lochan was withdrawn from the last scurry we went to as the temporary fencing they had to jump over was held up with three large bags of dog food. She could ignore the clay pigeon competition and all the other distractions but food...never.

The crowd loves it when competitors cone up with their own creative interpretation of any dog sport :) Lady was just giving her people what they wanted.

Life is harsh at times. Took Lady into the field just now and set up a very long blind retrieve. Called Lady in and made her sit. Took aim and fired. She was like a greyhound out of the traps! Dead straight to the spot. Slightly to the left and overshot but scented it. Slammed on the brakes, returned and picked up and came back like an express train. Sob!!!!
