My 7 yr old has sebaceous Adenitits. I'm looking for any help on what to feed and if anyone has/is going through the same thing. We are bathing weekly, feeding no grain diet and I'm sure I've tried just about every skin & coat product out there . Her coat is so patchy at the moment she looks uncared for and the shedding of hair and skin is so bad its triggered asthma attacks in both myself and daughter. I'm so desperate.... Has any one any recommendations of products to try?
Sorry to hear that you and your dog are dealing with this skin issue. What are you bathing her with at the moment?
http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/skin/c_dg_sebaceous_adenitis?page=2 Poor boy, I'd never heard of that. In the article it says this disease is rare and says, "Many researchers and veterinarians advise dogs owners to register their pets so that they can be tracked. In this way, researchers may be able to discover a mode of inheritance for the disease." I don't see that it says WHERE you register though. What protocol has your Vet advised? Maybe your Vet knows about this register thing?
Hi, I have a mixture of shampoos from the vet. All Virbac shampoos. The ones that we use the most is Sebolytic shampoo. Also have allergy shampoos. Have also tried eliminating grain from diet (not really made much difference). Spent hours today online today as come across a new shampoo I haven't tried (last count over 20 different ones). Fingers crossed that helps. The best thing seems to be coconut oil on her skin, oil baths and out in the sunshine. It is the first time the vet has seen Sebaceous Adenitis in a lab (currently has 30 Vizla's with it) but after she has spoken to other vets it is becoming a lot more common. It is genetic so poor breeding. There is a drug treatment for when it gets very bad, but it is £120 per month plus has so many side effects (chemo drug) that I really don't want to go down that path and really the vet feels the side effects are worse that the condition so not really an option. So far the best treatments (such as oil baths and coconut oil rubs) have come from spending time looking on google and Vizsla websites. Will ask the vet re register, but we've had it confirmed for over a year and several trips to vet and no-one had mentioned a register.
