Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this, so I hope this is the best place! I know Labradors are a dog breed that do shed their hair, but I feel as though the amount of hair that Aslan sheds is beyond normal. It is everywhere! The house will be vacuumed, and then about an hour later it will be covered in hair again He isn't allowed upstairs, but the stair carpet and the bedrooms look as though he is constantly up there rolling around! Does anyone have any tips on how to minimise the amount of hair shed? We have begun brushing him everyday in the hopes that that will help. Also, if there are no tips on minimising the amount lost, then are there any tips for getting it off clothes and off carpets? Thank you
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! This time of year they do have a big molt for summer. I now use a furminator and I find it's much better for getting the old fur out of their coat than normal brushes. I actually have www.vetuk.co.uk version which is cheaper but exactly the same. It's amazing how much dog hair can be moved around the house. My two don't go upstairs either but the carpets would suggest different and as for the bathroom. :. As for getting dog hair off clothes all I can advise is alter your wardrobe to match your dog.
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! Thank you Jen. I will check out the furminator - because at this point anything will help! I agree with the changing the wardrobe - anything black gets covered in white dog hair as soon as I go anywhere near him :-\
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! The wonderful world of Labradors Kathryn , it wafts around like tumbleweed , even in the bathroom , most of my clothes are black
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! A chocolate Lab and dark wooden floors helps a lot - they match so you can't really see the hair....
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! You think Labradors should be bald by the amount of hair they shed. My advice would be: 1. Buy a Furmingator 2. Buy a quality (Bosch?) vacuum cleaner that caters for pet hair 3. Live with it! Good luck Roger

[/quote] That's where I went wrong then, chocolate lab and cream floor tiles ;D I do a quick sweep most days to keep the fur at bay but find my stairs, brown wood, are the worst area and that's cat fur ;D
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! I don't bother anymore, and I used to be so houseproud. I just do something when I can't see my feet.. ;D

Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! Another good tool is a zoom groom - a sort of knobbly plastic thing. My last Lab adored being groomed with it and it was very effective. (Molly hardly sheds at all - she's crossed with a Chesapeake Bay Retriever.)
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! If you have wooden floor we have a special broom (fur-eze) specifically for pet hair which is AMAZING He sheds so much now though that 10 minutes after sweeping there is hair again! The furminator helps but i wouldn't recommend doing it every day as it can remove too much hair causing dandruff, definitely does look good on my boy as he's a black lab

It's gentler than the fulminator (although I have both) and THE AMOUNT OF HAIR THAT COMES OUT is insane. I live in a temperate climate. Which is nice - except it means that while Maisie may have a bigger moult 2x a year, she actually more just sheds continually. I find brushing kicks up the dandruff rather than causes it, so not sure if Furminator causes dandruff or just reveals it.
Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! I use a gentle dry shampoo every few days and basically just give Scout a massage on his hindquarters/sides. I don't use a ton of the shampoo, just enough to make my hands sticky - it really picks up the hair. Lint rollers work great to pick up stray hairs off the sofa - but I just gave up and keep a sheet on it now.

Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! I was despairing when Shadow had his first moult (I assume losing his puppy coat). White hair EVERYWHERE. I just bought a whole load of those sticky clothes roller things. For now, neither of them sheds much at all, but I know I will be eating my words one day.

Re: Shedding Hair Everywhere!! Our Finn is shedding hair tremendously! Euan a lot less but also shedding. We had Finn castrated 4 weeks ago and I think we have double hair shedding now, one for it is the time of the year, and two due to the hormonal state he is in! So we have a nice blond carpet on our dark brown oak wood floor! We do use the furminator, but in my opinion it cuts hair rather than groom it. So only once a week is allowed. Annemarie
