If you exercise your dog in the countryside and the fields have livestock in them I think it's well worth spending a bit of time getting the dog used to animals - especially sheep. Went through the gate into the field this evening to see what I thought was the tail end of a column of sheep going through a field gate into the adjoining field. Whoops! Behind some bushes right where I was standing and out of sight were half a dozen ewes with lambs so Lady and I came literally nose to nose with them. They scattered. She took about 3 bouncy leaps towards them and then stopped and had a sniff at a clump of grass. So some of the training has paid off although most of it is an abject failure.
Oh, I'm terrified of mine running off after a sheep, goat or cow. I tend to clip them on the lead and stand and watch for a while. To be honest, they're not that interested, but I'm pretty sure that if one of them ran off, Shadow would want to chase. So for now, we're all about the desensitisation and proofing his recall Well done, Lady, you did your pops proud!
