Rue gets quite a bit of water in the morning, at lunch, and throughout the evening if she wants it. I bought a hanging water bottle back before we got her when we bought all of the needed supplies, but I have not used it much due to being weary of crate accidents. But now I'm starting to worry myself that she doesn't get enough water throughout the day. Those of you who crate for 3-4 hours at a time, do you use one?
Re: Should I put a hanging water bottle on the crate? I never left pups with water overnight but always in the day. If leaving them for 3-4 hrs you must definitely give them access to water, if they wee in the crate then I think you have to accept that this a consequence of leaving a puppy for that length of time. Re: Should I put a hanging water bottle on the crate? I have never left Penny with water in her crate and until recently she was crated for 7 hours a day. She drinks plenty in the morning and in the evening when we are home. Now we don't shut her in her crate anymore and she has free access to water all day, but I'm 99% certain she doesn't actually drink when we are not there.
Re: Should I put a hanging water bottle on the crate? We have a clip on water bowl for our two boys in their crate, they have water in it whenever they're in it, even overnight and we have never had an accident. They don't drink much in the mornings but we soak their morning food, but they have dry at lunchtime and do drink some after lunch. When we first got them it was really hot overnight and they needed water. It is a smallish bowl and they never completely empty it, we are going to add another now they're growing though. Lou x
Re: Should I put a hanging water bottle on the crate? I also have a clip-on water "bucket" that is always in the crate so he goes in and has a drink whenever he wants it. I do take it out a couple of hours before we are ready to go to bed. He has never had an accident and I would rather he have the availability of water at all times. Food is a different story....I put the food down and he inhales it...so it stays there 30 seconds!
Re: Should I put a hanging water bottle on the crate? Right from 8 weeks Chepi had water available all of the time. I bought a heavy ceramic dogs' water bowl off amazon and (touch wood) haven't had any spillages. She's 19 weeks now. Her water bowl lives in her crate.
