I have discovered it Barbara My daughter had hidden it as she felt is was personally rude to me. However, I have reinstated it - and replied. :)

People certainly do get very upset about this topic

Have not read through all comments yet, but going by the title, if this site was to ban crossbreeds, then i would not be welcome as i do not own a pure bred labrador, as puzzle is 1/8 hungarian viszla, and barley is a is a mongrel to put it in easier words.

I have found this site and the information available very helpful and has given me reassurance that i am not alone with my dogs problems, and people on here are great at giving support to those who need it, whether they own a pure labrador or not, they are not judgmental.

I do not have facebook so would not have seen this discussion.

I believe that this forum should stay the way it is, it is a lovely friendly forum that gives out great advice and should stay the way it is, even if this upsets a few 'anti-crossbreed' people.

I have just read the FB posts (before I came on here) and I must say I was quite shocked by the forth-right (and frankly offensive) posts that I read.
My gut feelings were very much who ARE these people, and if they don't like it then press the UNLIKE button.
I am really quite angry, there is absolutely no need for it.

And I would second (at least) the appearance of the Hattie/Charlie picture - I love it - one of the best pictures on the forum (no offense to any other of the beautiful dog piccies - or ducklings)

Will have to check out the FB page later (I don't do FB much....). Sounds rather..er...exciting!

Any dogs I own will always be pure-bred Labradors. But wouldn't it be terribly boring if Labradors were the only kind of dog in the world? Love to see photos of everyone's dogs. And that one of Charlie and Hattie is a real beauty :)

Am I over simplifying things if I suggest that the silvers are labs if a KC is prepared to register them as such or if both their parents are registered as labs?

This must be right - what else defines a labrador? They vary hugely, and look so very different.

In that case the people averse to silver labs are going through major denial !! :-\

Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds!

Don't go online all day, log in thinking I can catch up quickly and discover it has all kicked off!

Haven't been over to facebook yet, and am not sure I want to as I feel the end result might just be me getting incredibly annoyed... As far as I'm concerned, people come over to the Labrador Site because they have a primary interest in Labradors - maybe they have owned Labs for years, maybe they used to have one as a child, maybe they are thinking about getting one in the future... but so much of the advice benefits anyone genuinely interested in the training, health and well-being of dogs of all breeds. What is the point of pretending it is only applicable to Labradors, or indeed that pure bred Labradors should be the only ones to benefit from responsible owners? Anyone looking to improve the lot of their dog by seeking to better inform themselves should be welcomed... and that logically means we should also welcome a range of dogs.

I happen to have a KC reg Lab. I also happen to have a KC reg cocker spaniel. Both are from working lines and are therefore differ significantly from plenty of other KC reg Labs and cocker spaniels that we meet out and about on a regular basis. They both benefit from the information available on the site, and I benefit hugely from the support and advice of caring and responsible owners who use the forum. The dogs that these people own might vary, but they all have a valuable contribution to make. I would be hugely saddened if the discussion of a dog's exact DNA took precedence over the discussion on the best care of the dog.

And Helen, that picture of Charlie and Hattie is 100% gorgeous. Who needs it to be 100% Labrador?!

Re: Should the Labrador Site ban cross breeds!

Just had a look at the FB page. Interesting claim fro one person that they are genetically modified! Gave me a chuckle anyhow.

I am all for registration, pure breeds etc etc but there simply has to be an avenue to bring new breeds and colours in and to eventually have them recognised as pure breeds (I am in favour of this as I think that pure breed registration makes it possible for greater regulation of health screening and breeding and that can only benefit people and dogs). Over the last couple of centuries a lot of new breeds were developed, giving us the diversity we have today. What if kennel clubs had been formed earlier and had said no to any new breeds 100 years ago? We wouldn't have Labradors at all! It makes a similarly low level of sense to shut the gate on new breeds and colours today.
