Hi all, We currently have a 6 month old labrador and thinking about getting another. I think the company for her would be great and we love dogs! I work from home so care isn't an issue but wondering what things we seriously need to consider (obviously cost being one) before adding another addition. Our puppy is very well behaved and loves other dogs, she is a fox red and we were thinking another fox red but a boy this time. We are planning to spay our bitch probably after her first season so that shouldn't be an issue. Would love any thoughts / experiences / pros and cons! Thank you!
We have two dogs, a Labrador called lucius and a beagle puppy called Pup. We got our labrador for company for our older dog, Lacey - a japanese spitz - and the two got on great. when lacey passed away last year it just seemed right to get another dog, especially since lucius loves doggy company. we got a beagle because we wanted a small dog as we dont have the space for two large dogs. Best decision ever, the two get on great. We found it better with one large dog and a small dog as the cost is lower, and they have more space to chase and play all the time. Lucius is a fox red too - his mum was fox red and his dad was more of a sandy colour. He lost most of his red at 8 weeks. this was Pup (beagle) first day home, Lucius was thrilled
We have always had multiple cats and multiple dogs... Sometimes it's great and sometimes it's a little less great. Overall our bunch gets along. I also was home a lot and could give each one a little extra attention as needed. The black is MY dog and if he doesn't get his special time he gets a bit naughty. His special time is a ride in our truck, by himself. Our boys are 4 and 2. Since close in age they have similar play styles so do help to tire each out.
We have two Labs, but one is 12 and the other is 3. That is really more of an age spread than I would like. They do play some, but not as much as they would if there was only 5 or 6 years difference.
I have a 13 year old female chocolate lab and a 21 week old chocolate lab female. My 13 year old wants nothing to do with the puppy. The puppy wants to play with my old girl so bad, but Shaye wants nothing to do with her. I wish I would have gotten a lab sooner so they both would be in their primes together.
I've always had multiple dogs, usually with a 3-4yr age gap and usually all males. At the moment I have a nearly 9yr old and an 18mth old Lab, they get on fine unless the older one is feeling a little out of sorts and then he might tell the youngster off. Personally I would put off getting another pup until your present one has had her spay and is fully recovered from it. It would be a nightmare trying to keep her calm and quiet with another youngster around.
