Re: Shouting at our dog! Glad to hear this. Good luck with the scary lady. You will feel much better if you are relaxed and the training will be much more productive.
Re: Shouting at our dog! Jane, new training starts Wednesday morning at my local woodland, can't wait! Watch this space........!
Re: Shouting at our dog! Fab morning training session in the woods! The trainer is lovely, normal and has a wicked sense of humour! We met lots of different people and dogs, kids, bikes and even a rabbit. Maisie was brilliant, loving all the new experiences and we had lots of opportunity to practice recall from different situations. Lots to work on for the rest of the week! Very pleased and I now have a very tired, muddy dog! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Re: Shouting at our dog! Sounds like a brilliant training session and a happy tuckered out Maisie at the end...
Re: Shouting at our dog!
Yey, found myself a new trainer, who comes highly recommended. Interestingly she has taken on lots of owners/dogs who did like like the trainer I've been with Meeting with her for our first outside session Wednesday morning at our local woodland park. Can't wait! Now, I've got to tell the scary trainer I'm not going to class again........ :
I'm i the same boat - I've been back for our second session today and still unimpressed by the language (dominance, show who's boss, they need to know their place in the pack, etc. etc.) and the techniques given - lead yanking, asking them to sit and push their bottoms down, asking them to lie down before they have laid down, oh the list goes on. The hard part for me is that they do their dog training in a barn on our farm!! They pay my father in law the rent, so at least I don't have the relationship, but it's still majorly awkward!!!! :-[
Re: Shouting at our dog! Oh Emma, that is awkward. Could you just say that you've had a change of circumstances and that you can't do that day anymore, a littlw white lie won't hurt too much :
Yes it is really awkward and I certainly don't want to upset her, as she means very well, her methods just don't click with me. My husband pointed out that he is actually struggling to find the time to look after our boys while I am at the class (he's a farmer so is home, but is massively busy this time of year... well all year really lol), so I think I am going to use that as a pretty valid reason. My boy's are one and three, so too young to sit and wait patiently at the class for 45 mins. Still feel bad though!
Re: Shouting at our dog! Don't feel bad Emma, everyone has different ways of training and I agree that your trainers methods seem a bit old school. I would also back out if I was uncomfortable in that environment. You have to do what's best for you and your pup, as well as your family x
